Title: Sorcery Hunters
Post by: Moonthirst on October 25, 2008, 02:18:47 AM
I was thinking of how sorcerers were people who were born with powers so I would think some would want to destroy those powers, that is where this comes in. I wanted to know if any players would like to make a group of sorcerer hunters. We would involve much pvp against mages, have a fun group to quest around with and cause some mayhem around the ziggurat for fun. If any of you want to join in my idea or have suggestions of how to improve this idea please tell me.

Yuck, that sounds too much like what you got in the Dragonlance setting which I.. really don't like.
Maybe there's any kind of faith that has a holy-inquisition kind of branch that might suit better? It also would be a bit less wanton and random PKing in my humbliest opinion.
(And you could use snazzy lines like for example "No one.. expects the Kossuthian inquisition!")

The dogma of Tempus leans towards the direction of aiding deserving warriors, so one type of interpretation might be that sorcerors aren't inherently deserving of the forces they command.  The logic has holes in it, certainly, but if your group was reasonable they wouldn't be murdering people just because they were sorcerors after all.

The nice part of that is that Tempus also sets you up for a chaotic alignment, and you can join Gaeseric's banner pretty much immediately that already discourages people who rely on magic.

Uthgardt isn't a fan of magic. Maybe you can pervert his dogma to become "KILL ALL"?

I don't think basing a faction on hunting sorcerers, the weakest class, is very viable.  There are very few and far between rolling anyway (and usually seem to fade out of existence as far as activity goes) and you would spend a bunch of time doing nothing.

Azuth

A certain sect of Azuthans exist that do what you are currently trying to perform. They believe that Magic only exists for those who study, have the patience to do so, and actually work to tame the abilities. Sorcerors (Those born with magic.), do not have time to hone the ability and it mostly ends up with chaos. Wild Magic users, (Sorcerors) should be hunted, their hands cut off, and burned at the stake for their crimes against the Church.

Okay, here's what I suggest then, if your'e gonna hunt the weakest class, then I would suggest consisting Your group strictly with wizards. It's no fun to get pwned by twelve fighters.

Considering how a mage rigged for PVP can whack a sorc's specialist approach, the fairest and most IC thing would be a cabal of rabid Diviners. Perfect scryers, but it prevents you invis ganking so you're going to have to be cunning. Also, you'd have to go after Bards as well whatever you did with this faction. You know, combat bard vs Wizard, less of a one-way fight. Especially since it puts, say Fransico De Olid RIIGHT in your crosshairs XD.
