Title: Johans mill lag.
Post by: eliff on October 09, 2008, 03:22:08 PM
I would really like the lag you get on the sloped road to be fixed.  It's too late for me as I was killed when I lagged out running from a wild orc, it teleported next to me and critted me.  This is really annoying and dangerous for players, so it would be nice if you could sort it.

It's a tileset issue, there is not very much that can be done, sadly! :(

Many areas do this, if you wish to avoid this then what you should do is not use WASD to move, but use your mouse instead on the areas you know are likelly to cause the screen to freeze, especially if you are running from something. It only happens once per visit to an area it seems, so once it hits you, you'll be fine until you leave and come back.

I have the worst computer here I bet, and I get this and it is at least a 10-20 second freeze on areas such as Bog, Johans Mill, Sloped Road. Using the mouse or WASD to move doesn't matter for me because once my PC gets to where my mouse clicked I'm still lagging. This is all hopefully going to go away when I get my new computer soon!

Oh, I think my machine should be able to run like NWN three times simultaneously, and sorta smoothly so, but on those aforementioned areas I still get a little hiccup (still long enough to be dangerous, luckily nothing was there so far), I'm just real curious what could cause that..

It isn't due to the tileset at all. It's due to certain placeables.

Like our lovely willow tree found in the bogs and the Johan's farm. One way to prevent this freeze-frame effect is to place the placeable near a transition so the freeze-frame will happen during the area load time, once, and then the placeable's structure will be stored in your virtual memory and you will no longer have to 'load' so to speak each time you see it in a particular area.

This is common to:

 - All 1.69 trees or almost.
 - All 1.69 Horses.

Some 1.69 placeable behave strangely as in they will not freeze-frame but cause huge amounts of lag or make graphical errors such as the new 1.69 siege arbalet and ballista.

Please use this topic as to find areas that cause these freeze frames and we will address it accordingly.

Sloped Road
Johan's Mill
Bog
Southern Bog

(The bogs are the worst for me, they easily take over a minute to load and I get multiple freezes when moving through them)

Yeah. That's probably due to your antiquity of a computer sadly. :(

I'm running a very powerful computer by most standards, and I still experience up to 2 seconds of lag almost every time I hit the front gates.

Very bad placeable? Or is it maybe something on my side?
