Title: Jungle Panthers
Post by: Damien on April 03, 2010, 09:35:34 PM
Can the dms see about remove half of these spawns? They seem to spawn atleast one per map, I've found 14 across three maps before and thomas said he found seven on a single map.

I find the number of cats silly. Are the druids purposely breeding them? Is this some kind of cat island? Different species hunting side by side with no interest in territory? I get it there's a shit ton of cats here, ease up on spawns plz.

*edit* Maybe make them show up in less numbers but instead they are all GIANT CATS like in some lost world scenario?

I would have to agree.  They are freaking everywhere.  It gets annoying really quickly.  I'm fine with monsters being everywhere, but the cats are kind of ridiculous.

There are too many cats, it's true.

It's surprisingly difficult to come up with monsters to spawn in areas so they're not lifeless yet that make sense in large numbers though.

And sometimes the odds are such that there'll be a lot of one particular monster type.

More tactical goblin strike teams, imo.

I think this happens because of stealthers, frankly, especially druids and rangers. They move through an area and monsters spawn, often cats. They move through again and more critters spawn. Some of these attack each other, but since cats don't, and since druids and rangers don't kill them, they stay there. Eventually, if the server has been up a while, you can get several in an area because no one's killed any of them.

Pfft. Noobs and wusses. The correct solution is to spawn more Dire Wolves to eat the cats... and then Great Lizards to eat the Dire Wolves...

As far as suggestions go, how about more kobolds? You only ever see the Starving Bandits, and the odd group of kobolds would add variety.

SHit, we've been found out!

I think it's important to campaign.

Spay and Neuter. Very important.

Humanoids in general can fit nearly any area of the island as a spawn that makes sence. More orcs, goblin hunting parties, kobold bandits, a small band of gnolls. At night, groups of weak werewolves, etc.

The ocacional human bandit makes sence, too. Isn't old port a scoundrel's nest?

We just strolled through an area, finding 7 live cats of different types, one of them standing by the corpses of two more cats...

Less jungle panthers. More sabretooth tigers.. Problem solved.

I bet people will be upset when they meet the next death attacking/paralysis on hit/hits like a truck mob to be implemented instead of cats.

Cap hit the nail on the head and I very much am more afraid of other things that spawn than the cats, we could always replace them with more huge snow bears.

Do stealthers even kill any spawns unless they are spotted though?

Druids and rangers rarely kill the spawns unless it is for RP purposes.

Maybe if we make Druids/Rangers not to spawn jungle cats?

I mean, it makes sence, they should know how to walk without disturbing them and making them come out to kill people, right?

When there are like 8 jungle cats in one area, that is not very balanced.  Just saying!

That is not imbalanced, that is progress!

For those who do not know. It's not just an issue of stealth. Animals do not attack druids or ranger with high Animal Empathy.

The numbers of different spawns will be changing with the upcoming update. This should result in fewer felines. Of course that means more of something else.

I think the spawns should be placed better.

"Jungle Cats" shouldn't be spawning in the mountains of mist, nor some beach. When you get into the forests, yes, they should spawn.

The area where the gnoll encampment exsists - make some small gnoll spawns. They'd give no XP, but will give flavour.

The plain areas, and areas close to water - wolves, orcs, etc.

I don't ever want EfU to feel like an MMORPG, but I would love to see a larger variety of spawns.
