Title: Gobsquat, whats that?
Post by: Dreadfang on March 18, 2010, 08:34:34 PM
The Gobsquat has been lost among the worthless things of the server, but it is not too late. Like all things there has to be a happy ending!

And amazingly there is! With your help!

The Gobsquat is a crime ridden place, without any laws. There is murder, chaos, crimes, and a lot of fun in this place. I want to see people use this place to their advantage. I want to see criminals dealing here, making contacts, and doing whatever the hell they want!

Remember that it is the gobsquat! You can play orcs, monstrous creatures, goblins, and most races and not be hunted to extinction! This place has been forgotten because of the popularity of the increasing population of Dockfolk.

Make a cool char and hang out there! Its an awesome place!

I approve of this suggestion for more goblin silliness (http://www.escapefromunderdark.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38958).

More goblin silliness!

Gobsquat

The problem in gobsquat is that it lacks recruitment. I have tried my own hand twice, with one character. It is similiar to sewer town of EFU. It has alot of personality, but lacks a steady stream of new players you can easily recruit.

There is a clear docks quest, you go, get sand come back.  Sadly the two clear gobsquat quests, foutain and delivery, are not used often. The delivery is done quick, and sadly most people run the Valraa quest without ever stopping to hang out.

Unlike docks, which has trogs and snakes later on, gobsquat only has the gob clan hunt.

Bottom line, no one hangs out in gobsquat, and no one from other areas wants to interact with people in the squat.

I love the squat, but without more new players running through, it will stay as it is.

Many of the people have grown from the roots of the Docks. Craddock, Megale, The Stygians, and the Nentryarch. It is true what you stated above. With only one quest involving the Gobsquat and minor 2-3 stuff there is not much you can do there.

Although hard, you can still succeed with the Gobsquat and have great role play. They have a DM faction too that nobody ever has tried to app for of late (hint hint). Also there are many monstrous races that reside behind their walls.

If any of you have a concept that involves the Gobsquat I highly suggest you go for it they need lots of PCs

So originally I posted a bunch of problems but really that is just restating the same old thing.

I am going to try and make a character to get people into gobsquat, I'd advise others to do the same.

Pm me if you'd like to meet my character but more then likely if you hang out in squat you'll meet him sooner or later.

The gobsquat has one clear advantage over the docks....

It lags less.

I love the Gobsquat, and that fact that it's rarely used makes it great for some of the more... private conversations. And people do hang out there, and they do recruit, but its uses currently are best for not drawing attention. >_>

I'm waiting for my application to be approved, but expect a great many things from Gobsquat in the future!

Gobsquat needs some decent quests and acces to the wilds IMO

I don't go to the Gobosquat because that conversation is annoying. Having to click through text just to enter it is horrible! To me at least.

really?

I guess it's all opinion, but I always liked the fact that people had to pay or be clever or charismatic to enter. Always thought it was unique the only VIP area of EFUA was the gobsquat lol.

Meh, 5 gold is nothing. NOTHING at all.
The problem is that a gobsquat-based concept should not be entering the ziggurat, however, the only exit off the squat is through the sewers, so no cha-based builds, and no coming out of there at night, etc. Also gobsquat-based characters that can't enter the zig will level up slooowly due to the lack of quests.

I haven't actually played a PC that lived there but from what I know it's location keeps me from making the attempt. Except for swimmming (which is kinda rough) I don't see a way to get a monster type PC from the Squat to the wilds without having to go through the Zig which is going to cause issues every time (for monsterous PC's anyway).

I may be wrong and there may be a path I don't know about but I know for a fact that it's kept me from bothering to even try.

For instance the path from the Docks to the wilds without going through the Zig is easy to find.

High 5 to DT, ya beat me to it ;)

I agree with Requiem. The conversations are annoying. Having a slightly easier route to the wilds seems sensible.

Not to highjack the thread or anything, but are kobolds and goblins non-app? I know kobolds were non-app at one time, (I haven't played one sinse EFU)...

Hmm... Perhaps a hidden path from Gobsquat to [spoiler/the other goblin area]. This could get goblins access to other areas while bypassing the Zig.

All monster races are app-only. Some are easier to get than others though. (gobsquat goblins for example.)

IMO make goblins non app, especially if you are going to do the same to certain stargazer tribes.

The Gobsquat presently offers the following advantages:

1. Freedom to raise Hell - No one there seriously cares if you want to animate undead, converse with demons, or experiment on the Shadow Plane. You are free to molest others unmolested.

2. Technically not part of the Dutchy - While in the Gobsquat, you are under the rule of Chief Pogglit. He's never been known to kick people out for lawbreaking. He's more likely to kick you out for law enforcing.

3. Friendly to monsters - You might be forgiven for thinking that Ixpadia Sabuth is the greatest friend a monster ever had on Ymph, but before she ever set foot here, there was Valara the half-drow. Lycanthropes, demonkin, monstrous races, and even some undead are free to rent space in the Hanged Goblin.

4. Surprisingly amenable to PvP - While not quite like the good old days of Lower Sanctuary in terms of freedom to kick whomever's ass needed it at the time, DMs are still pretty lax when it comes to PvP in the Squatter's Den. If you like being respected for being tough, the Gobsquat is the place where you can shine.

It's not for everybody, but if it was, it wouldn't be half as much fun. Make a throwaway low-level PC and check it out.

Wild orcs are not allowed inside the Gobsquat.

<.< Monstrous within reason.

My character has been thriving in the Squat and achieving great things. If you want to play a goblin, Orc, hobgoblin, lizardfolk, sahaugan, ogre, and etc. The squaters den Is the place.

SMOOTH Criminals are welcome!
