Title: Stealing at the Puzzler quest
Post by: Loghaire on February 14, 2010, 08:25:31 PM
Seriously. If someone leaves a coin outside the puzzler quest door, it does not mean that it is free money. It is an OOC gesture to say that the room is in use, do not disturb. I put the money there considering the puzzler woman cannot tellt he player someone else is using it. It is not only disrespectful for a player to take the money ic but it is blatant sabotage ooc. Stop it, the prank is not funny.

Put something down people aren't likely to take, like a single mundane arrow.

Not unless the bug has been fixed.  Otherwise, no.

I've experienced this bug on a former character.  I'd be doing the quest, and then suddenly all the rings would reset.  Someone else would walk down the stairs.  It even happened twice in a row.  I was doing the quest, it reset, someone came down, and while we were looking for a DM OOCly, it was reset again and a third person came down.  None of us OOCly or ICly knew someone else was doing the quest.

It might have been fixed since then though.

1gp can feed you dinner it makes perfect sense for some poor commonor to take it.

I would also imagine it's nice to pick up litter and trash it so as to keep server performance at 100%. Though I'm not sure how big a problem it is on such a small server.

Loghaire's making a point about an OOC courtesy, I think. Not about someone IC'ly saying "Oh, look! A coin! I can eat now!"

It was suggested in a previous thread that this would be a good OOC way to deal with the bug until it's fixed. I think he has a legitimate complaint, but it's also possible whoever took the coin didn't know about the bug or the method of dealing with it.

If the bug's going to take a while to dig out, perhaps a "Room in use" sign using the rent stall scripts, but a 0 gp charge?

My complaint wasn't about losing money. Frankly, I could care less about losing one gold. It is about how I left an ooc message that said that I was busy in there and someone ignored my ooc sign. I know they tried to get in because the door opened while I was doing the quest. Luckily, they probably already did the quest and got barred from entry.

Have you considered leaving an actual OOC message in the form of a scribed note rather than an easily misinterpreted gesture that has no clear meaning?

There's always the chance that whoever picked up the gold coin doesn't know the significance of it as an OOC message. Not everyone reads the forums, or every thread in it.

I had no idea the coin meant anything personally.

Most of my chars are hardcore and would pick up a coin without a second of thought.

This thread makes me sad.  I don't care if you take my coin, just don't reset the quest while I'm doing it, thank you.  And the whole "IC" argument is garbage.  While some players may not read the forums, it should be a very small percentage that don't, and be mostly brand new players.

If a brand new player did this to me, I would make a point of showing them around OOC and IC, and explain to them why this is wrong.

i am unsure why this needs a topic, i just queue up all the moves and go do something else while it completes usually

i assumed everyone thought this quest was a neat addition initially (which it is) then moved on

The solution to this is for our lazy DM team to fix this bug that should be very simple to fix.
