Title: I'm a bit confused...
Post by: Letsplayforfun on January 05, 2010, 07:59:31 PM
by the new city areas that have poped up (Noble's gate, inner city, modified sewers).

For now they don't add much imo, and make me feel like we're still beta testing the server, trying out new designs.

If anything, personnaly i'd prefer new outdoor/travelling areas (cf. traveling threads), more than omg a new town is poping up.

I'd hate the archipelago is to look like any other town-server, and lose it's unique atmosphere.

And while speaking of atmospheres, more ways to link the current areas with the excellent underdark areas would be great. Just scratch all the old UD pcs if that's what you're worried about.

hum.. that gives me an idea...

The inner city is designed as a pvp area. An area where players are forced to travel through if they want to do certain quests. Preventing people from hiding away in npc infested areas too much while still progressing their characters mechanically.

Or so I've been told by its maker!

Noble's gate has seen a great amount of conflict erupt there and while it was (maybe is?) planned for NPCs to be there I think the greater effect it had was noticed.

Everyone hiding behind a vast amount of NPCs whenever they got in conflict was rather annoying. While it can still happen they have less capability to travel freely now without any worry and can no longer force PvP to happen in a highly populated area.

The Ziggurat and surrounding ruins have always been, in the mind of the DMs, this vast sprawling area. We have previously stated that transitioning from say the Ziggurat to the Temple District was always a process of the PCs moving through ruins or having to navigate different streets. The same applies for the wilderness areas where your PC may really walk some many miles during the transition.  With the recent updates, the original intent is better portrayed and I think adds a lot to the "Colony".

Understatement. Broken links aside, it's awesome. Awesome. This is what the docks were meant to be.

Yeah, kudos for the new areas. I also think some similar attention to areas outside the colony would be very much appreciated too!

As Germain alluded to, the Netherese city is -big-. Alot bigger than initially represented by firstly the Ziggurat, then the Docks, then the Temple District, then the Smash, etc. As is natural with a relatively young server, new areas and tweaks to existing ones will occur at times. By adding the Noble's gate and Inner City ruins players can better appreciate the scope of the ruined city they dwell in. Despite all the advancement and growth, the people of the Ziggurat would still often feel like nothing but squatters in a momentous city built by semi-divine beings from ages past.

Additional improvements are on their way! As for the IC part, it goes without saying that your PC merely assumes those ruins were always there and the Docks had always been like that (I kept the basic geographical design for that purpose).

I really like the changes of adding the two sprawling ruined areas, and the new Docks area really is a masterpiece of design.  Both the new ruins and the Docks give the appearance that the area is much larger than before.

Nice job to whomever invested the double digit hours in creating the new Docks.
