Title: Character descriptions on EFUSL
Post by: I_need_a_haircut on November 24, 2009, 01:27:15 PM
Could character descriptions be added to EFUSL.

If/when I update mine, there doesnt seem to be a way of checking what is says.  I could be mistaken, of course, so if there is please let me known!

If you hotkey the 'examine' action from the radial menu, you can then examine yourself to see your own description!

Yeah... this one I wouldn't be so much for... unless the functionality was added to edit descriptions in EFUSL. Then that'd be a grand feature to the system, due to the fact that while I enjoy being able to edit my description (I change it if Walther has acquired new, noticeable loot, or something about him is different, and thank you whoever created that command), the command interface is a bit like typing blind, and time consuming, compared to say a text box that appends the database.

Again though, this is probably too dev heavy.

We have so many other things to be doing. It's a good idea, just way low on the list.

Write your description in a word document and copy it into the ig command.

A fair idea, but it opens up opportunities for metagaming.

Ah, thanks Secutor... I had actually forgotton you could copy-paste... however the problem is that you don't know what the limits are... it ends up there isn't a standard character limit, but it's actually based on character space.

Doing some Tests, I've come up with the following results:

For the /c desc set command, the range of characters allowed is 250 - 963... while for /c desc app, the range of characters is 249 - 962, purely based on the assumption that O is the widest character (though W might be wider in the NWN Chatbar font). The character range accounts for the commands themselves being entered...

For those who might use the description editing command, could a DM append the "Chat Commands" section to include in the information for the description command that it's generally suggested that they paste a maximum of 245 characters, not including the command and following space, at a time? (Alternatively, should I shoot this suggestion somewhere else?). Knowing that information tidbit will help people cut down their descriptions into a nice, pasteable format.

Thanks!

Just append a sentence or two at a time and you will be fine. Once you pass the edge of the box you have no idea what it did or did not copy.

If your description is annoyingly long and it takes a lot of time to do so, you only have yourself to blame!
