right can someone post the rules for metagameing with information to me
i know there isa fourm on it but like in detail what is metagameing information and what could conciderd it?? like ones that sort of edge to the line of breaking it??.
Any quest you do is something new. Don't metagame traps.
Only know what you're character would know, not you as a player may know, through tells or otherwise.
like a password or something yes other opcwouldent know it unless told in ig way and if it was any other way or the used the knolage from on pc on anouther that is metagameing yes?
Metagaming is playing outside of the bounds of your characters'
reality. That means using knowledge that you, the player, has that your character does not. It also means manipulating the game mechanics in a way to gain an IC advantage or using your knowledge of the game mechanics or game world to decide your actions.
Arguably, some metagaming is
necessary to keep the game fun and to keep things moving. People could go on and on about specific examples, but think of the following questions:
1. Is this outside of the bounds of what my character should know, IC?
- No - It's not metagaming
- Yes - It's metagaming
2. If it is metagaming, does it:
- Give you an unfair advantage? (exploits that let you earn gold and XP easily with no risk, 'remembering' passwords and recipes from previous characters)
- Take away from the fun of others? ('knowing' what's ahead in a quest (like traps and monsters) so that other characters lose the joy of 'discovery', calling on your friends in tells to help you in PvP)
- Make it harder for the DM or others to properly react to your character, IC? (going back and forth on transitions to lose people following you)
If any of these are yes, then it is very likely that it is the sort of metagaming that is
BAD.
General rule of thumb: If you have to think about whether it's OK or not, err on the side of "it's
not ok".
Remember, some forms of metagaming (exploits, PvP cheating) can be bannable offenses.
