Title: Server Lag
Post by: TheWastesAreFrozen on September 26, 2009, 04:23:01 PM
The server seems to be lagging a lot lately in general. I've noticed it myself obviously and heard quite a few other players saying it as well. This of course becomes escalated as DM events are run and especially large scale ones and it's pretty horrible as of late.

No idea what's causing it but I've noticed a few new creatures in game lately. The firefly spam is annoying in the first place and they have the 'wander' script, there are patrolling Stygians in the docks as well and I know that NPCs with patrol paths cause a lot of problems for servers. Also, the swarm rats have ridiculous perception range and always seem to be stuck on something while locked on a target.

Some spawns in the wilderness seem to be doubling up or more, this can be seen in the webbed woods and also with a lot of the 'random' orc or animal spawns in the wilds.

I have not seen any lag for ages.

I most certainly have.

Keep in mind that if you're used to playing with an old system or high latency it might not be as noticeable, but something has certainly changed. The overall performance of the server has degraded for about a month (Moth, for cruzel) now.

I've noticed it as well.

Yea, I'm noticing lag as well lately which hadn't been around several weeks back. Otherwise I don't normally have connection issues, and it doesn't seem to be connected with anything immediately noticeable.

Sounds like something is about, but like I said, I haven't noticed anything. I'm running quite good end system that runs the latest games just as easily.

EDIT:

Related to that. Everyone that has issues, where are you from?

Europe, Finland here. I got good PC, and good broadband. No problems so far that I could say.

Its got nothing to do with how good your PC is.

Coming off a month or so break, I have noticed an -extreme- jump in the lag. I understand DM events will lag the server (though, I also remember when EFU:A was fresh and that wasn't an issue either) but there has been without a doubt a marked increase in lag even when there are no DM events occurring. It is a consistent lag, and something implemented within the past month or so is causing it!

Fireflies were a test and were gotten rid of after a day or so. If you are still seeing them, this is a bug and you need to report exactly where you have seen them. They were causing lag due to their wander script. However, I don't believe non wandering mobs are a major source of lag (except when there are a lot of them).

We are in the process of cleaning up though, so hopefully the lag will reduce.

Cool, thanks. As for the fireflies, I saw them at the main gates two days ago and in a second area as well that I honestly can't remember, but it was somewhere between the bogs and colony since that's where we went <_<

I've noticed lag in the last few weeks too, more so than the usual. As for fireflies, I've seen them in the Wyldwater and wyldwater mouth in the last few days.

There's new strange lag, I agree with that.  Is everyone with lag using the new awesome Zig tileset?  Not sure if they are related, but lag appeared roughly around the time I installed it, but I haven't reverted yet, its just too cool.

I'm not using the new tileset and i've definately been laggy lately.  To the point that I was amazed that I survived a specific event two nights ago.  Not sure what it is, can't see anything drastic changes in the last few weeks.

Some things were removed by Wern and it seemed better but still not totally fixed. Good work though, hopefully it can be resolved soon.

Call me what ever you want, but I still am having hard time finding this lag : /, I do understand that so many are having problems, but I also find it so confusing when I can't find any!
