I think a really cool thing to add into the game would be flares.
They could be used for many different situations: Perhaps you want to leave a trail for someone following you; you could signal someone from a distance; you could light up a darkened corridor without entering it with your own light source; you can light up a room, giving you a better chance to detect hidden enemies; you can distract someone while you move in from behind.
A grenade-like object which, when thrown, creates a tiny tiny flame placeable with a bright light effect that lasts for a while. You could even have ones with shorter or longer durations, depending on what they would be used for. Obviously, they'd only work on the ground; you wouldn't be able to light a person up from a distance, for example.
How's that for a suggestion?
Support, and suggest they simply be added to the alchemy system if they aren't already in there.
Oh. The alchemy thing would rock. Totally. Good call Coat Enkidu.
the way it could work with mechanics is that it would be for only people in that area:
It would say: *You see the light of a flare (in a certain direction from where you are)!
Supported!
I like this idea.
If this could be done, it would be cool
i feel your approval flowing into me and giving me strength
Just to weaken LTS, disapprove. >_>
This would be highly useful, though aren't Illumination Arrows intended for this purpose, sort of?
Sure, but there's not always a placeable or Remains to shoot with it. Or a bow to shoot with.
Take my strength, LTS!
Illumination arrows are also:
Comparatively rare
Only usable if you have a bow.
I did suggest Luminous Jellyfish Sling Ammunition with +acid dmg and light on hit a while back.
I like this idea a lot.
Also illumination arrows only allow you to shoot an object/creature. Sometimes there isn't something you can target to shoot with an illumination area.
You could even give torches a single use of this scripted ability to indicate chucking your torch into a room ahead of you like all the real D&D nerds do when their DM tells them the corridor ahead is light less.
I approve as long as each time you use one a Hundred orcs charge at you, as well as Flayers, Jungle Cats, MIST OGRES, Elders, Rot Demons....
Interesting.
The problem is really denoting which areas nearby could see the flare. It would only really be useful in a large area I suppose. Ideally, firing one off and being able to see it for a large distance would be perfect. But I suspect mildly abuseable if they were too commonplace, people might fire flare after flare off.
The way areas work in NWN doesnt really allow for interlinking areas the way we would all like.
Suggestions as to implementation would be helpful now though. I might not be seeing a solution. (Maybe I could use a flare?)
wait what? don't we have the mini map for this sort of thing?
j/k great idea.
Hmmm, perhaps if we do flares, different color flares or the ability to fire in patterns, sort of like signalling.
For example, the Zig is under attack and I have a company on stand by to flank and anhialate seige equipment brought by the besigers, I may want to fire a pair of red flares to signal the attack, or a single red flare to signal a arrow volley. It'd be good to see flares used in events to signal reinforcements to come.
Seems pointless
In the event the Ziggurat was under attack, there would be a DM attacking it! In which case a simple "*Shout*A flare goes off over Such and such" would suffice. whats the point of the flare item exactly?
The only thing is that maybe i would have the possibility of either spawning or attracting nearby monsters as they come to investigate the bright object. It would add some danger and reality to its use.
The point is that it would be Way Cool! I like it.
Reviving this idea.
Lots of work for little to no gain.
Not if it's a device that you can fling like a tanglebag to apply Light (bright, 20m) to a placeable or PC for a few rounds. It would be great to tag areas and to gimp a sneaky PC when they try to get away and hide at the next transition.
