A bit selfish suggestion:
Add a property to the cat-skin, which upon using, will destroy it.
(Single use Virtue or something similar)
Representing burying the cat/burning its corpse, so the cat-hunters could not profit from it.
Why? Because there's at least several PC's on the server plaing, who would actually do it.
A minor thing, and I think, easily scriptable.
It already, bizarrely has a single use power, unless that was changed. That did absolutely nothing, but could just be scripted to destroy it.
Also, I agree. My nature-oriented PCs who were against cat hunting always emoted slashing the body over in a few places to destroy the worth of the pelt or something. Taking and dumping them was feasible with 0.5lb skins, but not with the new ones.
If the animal is dead does it matter what happened to its skin? You have failed as nature guard.
Not completly. If the hunters take the pelt they will be back for more, if the pelt is ruines, less likely they will.

That's a weird remark IMHO. For that I would need XXI-st century radar, each of the cats on the island having a trace implant, and possibly a teleportation device whenever one of the green dots on the radar turns red when attacked, to be exactly at each spot.
And yes, it most definitely matters what happens to the skin in the eyes of some people. Some would prefer it burned, or buried, instead of being used as a carpet, y'know.
Break out the shovels, gents.
Your sniveling inadequacy sickens me Starless Night.
There are trash pits everywhere.
Dump them in there after emoting [Buries in pit]

It most certainly does. The less pelts that are available, the less catskin people wear, the less other people see, the less everyone wants anything made of catskin, the less cats that are killed.
[smack] You coulda had a V8
The less pelts available from already dead cats, the more people will hunt to get their cat-pelts. >_>

Good point... So I guess now you have two variables you would have to run some sort of model to see which one has a larger effect on cat deaths heh
That's a good idea.
I think that's actually doable if I can get a statistic on the average amount of pelts turned in every day, combined with an average percentage of pelts that is retrieved from already-dead cats.
GET ME THOSE STATISTICS AND I -WILL- MAKE THAT GRAPH.

Disagreed! Half of the folk 'hunting' cats are in fact scavengers, and the cats arent THAT easy to kill. Or at LEAST will cost people supplies.
As for the trash pits.... I know there are a few in the Zig... and in the Trog cave. Anywhere else? Oo
And Winston dood. The result of my sniveling adequacy was making this post to be less sniveling, and more adequate.
Rampant cat hunter FD spree.
wait wait, why would a druid skin a cat after its found dead?
To separate the sweet, sweet flesh from the pitiful remains.
i think other creatures should be skinnable like cats
assassin vines are way more dangerous so i think they should give a more significant skin, alas they give nothing
Everyone wants every little thing changed. lol
Has an ecological engine for spaws with balanced dates for males and females by area with control and counting migration ?
Just because you're a nature type doesn't mean you need to be a tree hugging hippy. People need leather. If it comes from a corpse that another animal killed... all the better! It's not wasteful if you use it for something and it's not destructive unless you go on a cat hunting spree and bring them to the brink of extinction.
Honestly, slashing it up instead of taking it to someone that might use it intelligently (ie, not for profit... like the Stargazers) seems incredibly wasteful. And disrespectful of the animal.
In that case, is it possible for the Stargazers to collect skins then?
FleetingHeart, thank you for that, now i know perfectly how to play a nature type!
Keep in mind however, there are specific PC's who might have very specific views on very specific animals. I.E. Stargazers. As in, considering them sacred.
The original suggestion was to burn the corpse / bury the corpse of the cat.
I don't know how many PC's are actually hunting cats, but when you are attacked by one and must kill it, it only makes sense to skin it so the pelt doesn't go to waste.
Lots of primitive cultures made use of creatures they regarded as sacred.
I think an easy solution to the original intent of this thread is to simply provide a few "garbage" pits out in the wild. The druids would be able to dispose of the hides without other PCs still being able to find them.
Additionally.. it may help cut down on some of the litter that does tend to find it's way out in the wilds. Less objects on the ground means less lag - from what I understand.
Just my two cents.
Turn the 'waste pits' into 'funeral pire' sites, for a change.
If the Stargazers consider the cats sacred, wouldn't they eat 'em?
Furthermore, what the hell do the Stargazers wear? Surely they aren't -actually- running around in grass hula skirts?
Because druids need clothes too?
Just so that some people out there are not befuddled or make mistaken assumptions from this post--
The health of cat populations on the island is a find-out-in-game sort of thing. Also, hunting is a natural process, and thus not specifically loathed by druids (although certain aspects, such as killing cats and wasting bone, meat, and everything but skin would likely arouse their extreme displeasure) unless they are simply mistaken with their dogma. Some druids, like Malarite druids, might even strongly SUPPORT hunting cats, for mere pleasure at least (the profit aspect would probably be a point of debate for them). In the end, the word "balance" needs to be the recurring theme in positions taken by druids, not a sort of "live and let live" super-hippie attitude where they wish Nature was like the Garden of Eden with peace, love, and happiness. Quite contrary to this, Nature probably wouldn't even understand these abstract ideas.
The people discussing this as I scroll above all already know this, I'm sure. Merely a friendly public service announcement, as I remember making this error long ago, and some food for thought.
I thought this was about adding a technical and easier way to dispose of the skins other then dragging them from Wyldwater to the trash receptable in the Zig... :P
Silly, you thought wrong!
