A letter addresed to "Mertinikles" left at the RB

Learned Mertinikles

You once told me that knowledge of everything that encompasses monsters and creatures is essential for survival. Grudgingly I admit you are right. I require knowledge on the feeding habits of Umber Hulks as soon as possible, a life is at stake.

Should you require anything in exchange for this knowledge, I will happily oblige. Leave word for me at the Rock Bottom.

Associate Lindgren Private, First Class of the Spellguard

There is no documentation regarding specific feeding habbits of such creatures that I have ever had a chance access. What I can tell you is that they tend to be mindless killers. They sence all movements and tend to be attracted by the noise of numerous pattering feet.

Should they hear potential victems nearby they will usually go out of thier way (Which isn't much when you can burrow through walls in seconds mine you) to kill them. if you wish to lure them. Making the ground shake in a way that any normal humanoid will feel would be like feeling an earthquake to an umberhulk and surely send it charging in that direction.

I can't garantuee this though its just off the top of my head. I'll search through some of my old tomes soon and tell you more if I find anything.

Thank you for your swift reply, there may be some hope. Do Umber Hulks preserve their prey for eating at a later date? The man who's life is at stake was dragged off unconscious by one and that is all we know.

I think I shall make a donation to help further your studies, find me at a later date when you are available for this transaction.

In the kindest regards Richelle Lindgren Associate, Private, First Class of the Spellguard *signed* Richelle Lindgren

That very unusual behaviour. Did you get a good look at this umberhulk. As they are sentient being they are suceptable to being domainated by other more powerful creatures, such as illithids perhaps even beholders although I'm not certain on that one. Sounds very strange to me. Perhaps I've missed something in my studies somewhere. if I find anything I'll let you know.

If you need to find me I often can be found boring local adventurers in the rock bottom. I've been preparing for my classes had a few set backs in rescent times. They should be going ahead this week though so you can catch me then I suppose.
