Parrots or Sharks

Can Druids become Parrots and or Sharks? If not, please consider this my suggestion to make it so. I would be willing to play a Druid only if I could be either a parrot or shark.

LTS - have you been hitting those blue mushrooms again or are your posts seemingly becoming more and more strange?

I can understand the shark idea... but a parrot? lol.

I'm for the shark as long as you can't be one while not underwater (for obvious reasons), but parrot? :|

Dig the shark. Hate the Parrot.

Sharks ... or some sort of "under-sharks" ... are planned.

I am somewhat skeptical about the setting-appropriate-ness of parrots.

I gotta have more parrot.

More flying things for druids to shift into could be very useful.

Maybe not a parrot.. but some sort of bird would be cool.

An "under-parrot"

_Nightfire_ I'm for the shark as long as you can't be one while not underwater (for obvious reasons)

I think for the sake of flexibility this should be possible, but when in shark form out of water you should take something like d12 points per round.

Just use the drowning script in reverse.

And the most encumbered possible. Ever seen a shark on land? Neither have i, but i don't think it's fast.

Okay. Undersharks is fine.

There are pirates under the dark, and therefore there should be parrots. How about monster parrots? Dire parrots?

lovethesuit There are pirates under the dark[...]

I might accept that one out of a million humanoids in the underdark has been a pirate in the past. Maybe - probably less than that. I'm guessing it would be rare enough for a sailor to somehow become stranded in the Underdark, let alone a pirate.

But even so, (and occasionally, there would be the odd pirate who somehow finds his way down into the Underdark) it's not like every pirate has a parrot, and I suspect that the pirate parrot survivabilty rate is pretty low in the Underdark, too. In other words: There ain't no flippin' parrots here!

Sorry.

It just doesn't seem to fit the overall ambience, either.

I like the sound of "underparrot".

In my mind's eye, I can see a scarred duergar "pirate" with an underparrot talking Undercommon on his shoulder.

<_>

How about a talking bat?

shark doesn't seem like it could be use much.... or could be used wrong. the parot would be fun though....bright colors.....ooooo

I think the shark would be great for exploring the new underwater regions... Pretty neat idea.

I am approving, I dont have a druid myself, but this idea sure tempting :)

more water creatures to druids...

hmm, which lets me to think... why not letting the alligment or deity effect the animals a druid can change it? if its not to complicated scriptly, ofcourse :)

How about a talking bat?
If I couldn't keep Koli as a bat I'll be dammed if the druids can turn into talking bats

for underwater areas it could be a special form for druids.. (shark form)

Do it on land (non-water zone) and yes fall to the ground (as if knocked down) if sharks have that animation. And start drowning, better quit that polymorph asap.

Parrot familiars, Parrot Animal companions and possibly summons are all possible and reasonable though.

Especially for a character with sea-legs or tropical origins (chult anyone?) :)

p.s. Koli the talking parrot makes perfect sense of course :D

parrot...why can't i stop laughing?

instead of parrots try dire bats in stead that be a better idea agreed?

and the sharks can attack foolish players who dare attack there territory *grrr*

I should make it clear that there are no records of pirates that had parrots, or any pet whatsoever! A parrot that sat on the captains shoulder all day, would only make a mess on his fancy coat. It would also get in the way of work, and be consumed by the hard life at sea. It is therefore highly unlikely that pirates had pets. It is derived from the legend of "Treasure Island", more specifically the character "Long John Silver".

About talking bats: Why not just get a mephit?

Not entirely accurate.

Parrots become associated with pirates in the early 1700s when seamen traveling in the tropics would return home with the colorful birds as souvenirs.

The birds could be taught to speak and were easier to care for on board ship than monkeys or other wild animals. They could also be sold for a high price in London bird markets. Pirates sometimes used the birds as gifts to bribe officials for good will

The talking bat is a reference to an IG episode. You can search the forum for a thread detailing this, or bug someone on IRC.
