This letter is sealed by a bit of wax, scarred green and pressed with some sort of stone. It is marked "Dungal Toboerski."
Sir Dungal Toboerski,
New sections of old Dunwarren, as well as rumors of previously undiscovered svirfneblin technology, might be thoroughly investigated with the key in the possession of an organization with over a century of related experience on the matter. Every day that goes by with the key sitting in your possession is a day that we lose utilizing new forms of food processing, water treatment, and defense. The Spellguard already has the foundation to use whatever you might stumble across; we may recognize things you would otherwise dismiss.
I ask that you take the course of action that would best serve Sanctuary, and provide myself, Agent Ferrington, Operative Delgado, or Executor Strife with the key when next you meet one of us; if you have been unable to duplicate it, you have my word that I will be seeking a keysmith to return either the original or a copy to House Toboerski.
Signed
Agent Varlam Nikitovich

I expect I am far more skilled at exploration than your Agents or Associates.
It is far preferable to my mind that your Agency and my Knights sponsor joint explorations using this key, that way I can assure the safety of your people and yours can provide their knowledge.
It will also bolster both our images to be seen working in tagent fullfilling operations that the Seekers simply fail at. Which is discovering more about our new home.
In Regards,
Sir Toboerski

Dungal,
this is not a request. Forward the key, or a copy of it, to me at the Tower and I will concider allowing you to join us on any ventures we might embark upon into the Bowels as a result of our posession of the key. Failure to do so will result in criminal charges, which may or may not include endangering Sanctuary.

Dungal,
this is not a matter to delay for months like so many others. Write me a reply on what your intentions are concerning this key so I can take the required steps.

Benito,
The key will be given to the proper authority that oversees this city. The Council. After the election, we encourage you to bring the matter up again. The Council may deign to let you make a copy, however at this moment certain Councilors strongly object to the Spellguard obtaining this item as they are not necessarily the best keepers for it--it may do better with the Seekers since they're actually skilled at exploration, or even the Watch who are capable of at least surviving attacks by street thugs.
Unless of course you object to me immediately handing it over to the Council, since you do know how long they'll fight and argue about who is best suited to use this item. In which case, I'm more than happy to work with the original deal that I offered the Spellguard.

Gregor,
it is not your place to question the orders given to you by a member of the Spellguard. Hand over the key or I will have you arrested for refusal to follow orders. You are welcome to send a missive to the Council after you have handed the key over in order to attempt to have them give the key to someone else.
By the way, your pathetic attempts at humorous threats concerning the key in order to allow yourself part of expeditions with the Spellguard have effectively excluded you from any such expeditions in the future. Well done.

Your inability to reason with your superiors has precluded the key going to the Spellguard. It will be the opinion of the Council, after the elections, that the key belongs with the Seekers or is best destroyed rather it fall into the wrong hands.
The Council will discuss the matter after the elections, any attempt to interfere with the Council will be viewed as a direct over stepping of your authority. You are still welcome to discuss the matter with the Council, and provide evidence on why the Spellguard can use this key.

A warrant will be issued for your arrest and the key taken from your posession if you have not already handed it over to the Council, which will then turn it over to the Spellguard.
Thank you for your cooperation.

The matter is now before the Council. Any attempt to interfere in this matter by arresting Councilors or their Agents will be considered treasonous behavior and treated appropriately until the Council makes its decision.
You are welcome to explain why the key is necessary immediately for the Spellguard when you have not had one for 151 years, but I fail to see why after such a long wait you can't wait a few more days or months while we discuss the issue.

Dungal,
the appearance of a new venue for the Spellguard to increase the safety of Sanctuary through research is exactly the reason the Spellguard require the key. It's non-existance in the past makes it no less important at the present time and your inability to realise that simply reinstates my previous thoughts of your mental capabilities.
As well, it is through diligence that the Spellguard require the key as soon as possible, not in a few months when you've been able to waste the time of the Council. We are here to ensure that Sanctuary is kept safe as well as make certain that any information which may increase Sanctuary's safety is discovered as soon as the oppertunity shows itself, and will do so, even when faced with those who would hinder us in our assigned duties.
You were offered a chance to hand in either the original or a copy of it from the start, which you refused. Your refusal of a direct order from a Spellguard has resulted in the warrant for your arrest, which can in no way be thought of as a treasonous action, not that you have any authority to make that kind of decision. Cease your flawed arguments, spend your allotted time in jail, pay your fine and hand over the key as soon as you next meet with a Watchman or Spellguard.

You lack the authority to arrest me in this situation. The Council will make its decision and your inability to abide by its authority is merely weakening your case and embarassing your Order, which originally had my support. Any move to prevent the Council from reaching a decision before action is taken will be regarded as treason by at least some of the Council and treated as such.
The matter is more important than your personal ego at this stage and is culminating in a conflict between the authority of the Council and the desires of several Agents within the Spellguard. You will do well to rashly consider the results your actions will have within the next weeks and months for yourself and your Agency.
Furthermore, the key can not be handed over until the possibility that illithids have infiltrated the Spellguard are thoroughly disproven. Your illegal contact with the Pyrimo Inn has been noted by the Council and will have bearing on the final disposition of any keys that may or may not currently exist.

My authority on the matter is fully known to myself and your arrest will have no effect on the Councils decision. Your meager attempts at escaping your inevitable fate will have no effect on the eventual outcome of this matter. You are welcome to take the matter of your arrest up with the Council after you serve your time in a cell.
My personal ego has nothing to do with this and there is no conflict between "the desires of several Agents within the Spellguard" and the authority of the Council. You committed a crime and will be arrested for it, it is as simple as that.
You are welcome to hand the key over to another member of the Spellguard if you actually believe I have been enthralled by the Illithid. The Spellguard have the required capabilities to ensure that this is not the case, which it is not. My defences were never breached, my wishes to undergo a probing is merely to show good precedence to others that unfortunately encounter the Illithid.

I reiterate for the last time.
The key is now the property of the Council to deliberate upon. ANY attempt by the Spellguard to remander it into their possession before the Council decides the best use to which this key can be put will be considered an illegal over stepping of the Spellguard's authority.
Any Agent operating with any other understanding of the current view of certain Council members in this regard will be forced to reckon with the consequences of assuming authority over the Council.
In other words, any attempt to arrest me or any other Council member in possession of this item will be viewed as treason against the Council by myself. I am willing to discuss this matter with your Commander or Superiors, or to relegate it to mediation by Sir Alexander Archibald; but the principle at stake here is the right of the Council to over see its own defense agencies and their operations.
At no time did I disobey any "order" that I could comply with in the first place. The key was delivered to members of the Council before the Spellguard made any such "order". For much of our discussion, the hand over of the key was a moot point because I did not at any point consider it "mine" and certainly not "the Spellguards". Furthermore, I deny the Spellguard has any right to demand property on the vague chance it "is a security necessity" to obtain.
