On the Matter of Candidate Dungal Toboerski

In the times of elections, it's especially important to have all the facts straight before making your vote. In the interests of citizens being able to make educated decisions on who to vote for this election, the Watch provides this information about one of the council Candidates: Proclaimed Noble Dungal Toboerski.

In the beginning of this recent crisis, Dungal Toboerski was seen in the streets of Lower alongside the watch, slaying citizens indiscriminately. Dozens were slain, for ultimately no purpose other than that they stood in the way. No attempt was made by Dungal Toboerski to stop the slaughter, even if he were to claim having brooked no agression against those citizens, why did he not attempt to stop it? Is inaction not just as much murder as action? Ask yourself this question before you enter the polling booths. Dungal Toboerski is as much to blame for deaths of citizens in Lower as any other.

On the subject of Inaction: Candidate Dungal Toboerski took it upon himself to have a new set of gates constructed for the city after their destruction in the goblin attacks on the city. It took an entire month, and yet, no gates were ever constructed or set in place, despite his claims of contracting an artisan to construct them. Three ###### -Months is scratched out- Tendays, it took Dungal Toboerski to hire a team to construct the gates. A single private of the Watch, in turn, seeing this, had the gates rebuilt, and reinstalled, in the matter of three days. Had the drow attacked the city in those three months, the city would have surely fallen, and all of us once slaves, would be slaves again. Had Dungal Toboerski cared for the people of the city, and their safety, would he not see that the city is adequately protected as soon as possible? No, Dungal Toboerski instead spent three months of time wasted due to a prejudice against the duergar who have provided Sanctuary valuable aid for 150 years.

On the subject of incompetence: It's often an indication of the employer, the manner of men he hires. Just recently, the Knights of Toboerski were seen in the Town Hall, championing the cause of Candidate Dungal Toboerski. Not by preaching at the Podium, as they should, but rather by creating an intimidating presence at the election booths. Voters like you were forced to submit their votes under duress, fearful of the Knights of Toboerski. The swift action of the Mayor's appointed officials saw to it that this was ceased, and yet a Knight of Toboerski still saw fit to circumvent the law of the city. Refusing to leave the polling areas, he was arrested for Serious Crimes by the Watch.

In the Watch House, he continued to disrespect the law of the city making lewd, hateful, and sexist comments at the arresting officer, for doing her job. Are these the sorts of men Dungal Toboerski hires? Is this the standard of honor he holds? Is it okay for his knights to be criminals as long as they proceed to disrespect law enforcement officials and women.

Is this the sort of man you want on the City Council? Think twice before you enter the voting booth at Town Hall to vote for Dungal Toboerski.

I do not pretend to be a better man than anyone. In the same vein, I do not believe any noble to be a better man than me, as The Toboerskis and their knights, and all other nobles would have you believe. I am as guilty as any other of wrong doings, but I do not attempt to gain such power as a seat on the Council for myself.

Sergeant Cail Durris Sanctuary Watch

Again, members of the Watch do a diservice. This time their lies don't even make sense.

The gates have not been destroyed for three months, and the same monsters that rebuilt it for them had ample time to be refused their service by a man who favors goodly folk. Humans in Sanctuary lost work because the Watch made secret deals with the druegar.

If I slaughtered citizens alongside the Watch, why did the Watch not arrest me? Or is the Watch guilty of murder and my servant at the same time incapable of enforcing the law without the justice of my fists? The truth is, the Tigereyes called for reinforcements to quell the riots. They called for the Watch to rescue them. The Watch indeed slaughtered civilians in Lower Sanctuary. Yet I was not in command of Sergeant Durris as he and his black mailing Private Lockwood led the slaughter, and I slew no man who did not threaten my life with drawn steel.

In the polling booth, after the Watch broke in and began lobbing spells at citizens; my Knights indeed showed them harsh words. The objector to their presence-a candidate currently employing many Watchmen to his side; a certain element that dwells too closely to the druegar I may add who was the *sole* objector to them helping the elderly, the illiterate, and the curious find their ways to the polls. The election officials did not remove them from the booths, the Watch broke into the booths and expelled them with force.

It is shameful that some dishonor the Watch for their own political gain.

This time though, their lies don't even make sense.

Your lies don't even make sense this time, Toboerski. We are watchmen, we cannot "lob spells" as you say. We defend the city, the Spellguard "lob spells." You can ask any of the people who saw your Knight with the citizens, including the people inside the booths. No one will say that the watch were "lobbing spells" at citizens. We do not even enter the polling booth except to cast our own votes, and we do so as citizens of sanctuary, and not as members of the Watch, and to arrest your Knight by order of the law.

Regarding the gate, if we made "secret deals" with the Duergar, how do you know of them? We made no deals except for the deal to make the gate, which was accomplished much faster then yourself. When I was a citizen, I asked you if you needed any help with the gate, and you gave me no information about it except that you would contact me in the future. To the day the new gate was installed I recieved nothing saying you needed any help. Humans in sanctuary will have plenty of other jobs in the coming days, which will be provided by myself, to build things. A single gate will not make people bankrupt, and if it does, I will personally see to it that they get back on their feet again.

You can deny any claim you want, say they're not true, slander the Watch and make up anything you wish to prove your point, but with nothing backing you up, you are merely denying everything. In a court case, if your only defence is "the other person is lying," then you have no defence. I do not mean to imply that you have to make a defence for every accusation lobbed at you, but if you do, say something more then "I didn't do it."

Oh, and include your name next time, if you will.

"Months" on the original posters is crossed out, with Tendays written in place, additional posters are raised nearby, in response to Dungal Toboerski's response

Dungal Toboerski attempts to turn the blame of the slaughter of the citizens of Lower on the Watch. It is truth, I, as well as two men under me were in Lower and did in fact slay a number of citizens. This is not disputed. Dungal Toboerski shares these crimes as well, however. That he was not in command is not an excuse, he speaks against those in command, those with authority every day. He attempts to be in control, whenever it suits him. It seems however, that it does not suit him to speak against the slaying of citizens en masse.

Not even Dungal Toboerski can say that he made an attempt to stop the slaughter. Perhaps he was merely content to watch the blood spray?

He speaks also of humans in Sanctuary losing work to the duergar. This is a fallacy, if anything, the humans who Dungal Toboerski hired for the job lost the work opportunity because he himself took too long to hire them, and because the people he hired were incapable of doing the job in an appropriate amount of time. The city is now defended from outside threats because of the efforts of the Watch, rather than leaving a gaping hole covered only by barrels of sand which was expected to prevent drow from entering into the city in full force.

Better that a few lose out on an opportunity for work than the entire city be enslaved because of Dungal Toboerski's desire for publicity.

I seek no political gain. If I did, my name would be on the ballots alongside the Toboerskis. My goals are transparent. I do not wish to see Dungal Toboerski on the City Council.

The flyers continue to be spread around Upper, a large number ending up in Lower as well, as they go over the cliff edges into the streets below, kicked up with the dust by the heels of the citizens above.
