regarding a post not long ago, same topic.
what about a char with good listen?
when one fights, he uses his voice, its not THAT hard to define, for a good listener, is it?
and what about wounds?
in that move "spider man", (ofrgive me its WAY late, and i forgot names) the hero got scrached, and the green goblin notices it.
there is more thne just changing clothes, now im a new person.
and eyes, they must be exposed, and if they are, well, its easy to define a person by the look of his eyes, after you both fought.

If someone speaks or casts a spell (the automatic voice-set fighting sounds doesn't count), then you as a player can make a judgement call if your character would recognize the voice. Obviously, if they cast a spell silenced then you wouldn't recognize it.
If someone goes to the effort to completely change their outfit, it does seem you really should respect that they've clearly changed disguise. Depending on the situation you may or may not be able to deduce who it is, but just fighting someone in the dark or seeing someone run past by probably won't give you a lot to go on.
The important thing is to be fair to your fellow players. There's nothing wrong with extending a little OOC courtesy or giving them the benefit of the doubt. Feel free to discuss the matter OOC with them also, and if you really need to you can ask the Dms for their opinion.

what about shouts in battle ( not the automatic "i kill you now" voice) but rather, when i hit him, he cries, when he attacks me he makes a sounds (to try and hit the hardest, its an instinct and lets you hit better) it gives you a bit of indication (this alone cannot let you identify, but if there is light, you can, perhaps, sum a general discription of the character)
i agree you should speak with someone OOC as well, so both could put the line where you can identirfy him or not

No, I don't think fighting grunts and groans would be a legitimate way to recognize someone's identity.

Thank you. I think that is all.

MadCaddies
As an addendum to this, and because it affects recognition of disguised characters- can spellcasters whisper the verbal component of their spell by emoting doing so, or is that considered a cheap by-pass of the Silent Spell feat?
Don't post in other people's DM Q&A threads, MadCaddies.
And no, you can't whisper the verbal component of a spell. Take the darn feat!
