Death of Eristhenes Tichteran: An Eulogy

*A speech given in the Canal Ward, copies later distributed to help launch the Toboerski-Joint Councilor Campain*

Who was he? Was he honourable, and brave, what kind of man was he? Eristhenes Tichteran was a former Knight held in high esteem in Cormyr.

He was a man dedicated to social justice, to freedom, and deeply suspicious of those responsible for the injustices of Lower Sanctuary.

He sought to join the Toboerski Knighthood after hearing our desire to give Lower Sanctuarians a free choice on their future.

He was impressed that we offered an honorable and just solution to the suffering of Sanctuary when some would rather rush the quarter with military and enforce peace by the sword.

Only yesterday, the city watch entered Lower Sanctuary in complete defiance of the wishes of Lower Sanctuary.

We do not know what the actual thoughts of Aspirant Eristhenes Tichteran were that day.

However, we do know the results of the Watch's actions and their effect on Lower Sanctuary and how Eristhenes Tichteran was sadly caught up in all of this.

Knowing the Watch presence often, if not always, results in riots and bloodshed within Lower Sanctuary he followed their party.

The Watch came to burn the corpses of the city's dead; rather than to see them buried or delivered to the mortuary for proper services.

They instead sought to desecrate the very corpses of Lower's own citizens; slain in a rebellion against the monsters that ruled these streets for six years--the Tigereyes.

Angry citizens attacked the Watch, and an unknown but powerful wizard cast a spell called Confusion.

It bewildered the Watch party at the onset of what may have become a riot.

Sadly, Aspirant Eristhenes Tichteran was caught by this spell himself.

Compelled against all reason to attack the City Watch party, acting irrationally and totally against his own character.

What happens next is a matter of conjecture, but we do know this.

Aspriant Eristhenes Tichteran tried to break off the conflict, and perhaps even to flee.

Whether he was still in the grips of the powerful charm that stole freedom of thought from him, or in horror at his own compelled actions he fled-we will never know.

What we are certain of is that he was murdered as he fled.

[An expression on irritation crosses her normally calm face]

The City Watch party saw fit to exterminate his life for falling prey to the same spell that had just moments ago brought such chaos to their own bodies.

This is another example of the gross corruption within the City Watch, the very reason they are not welcome in Lower, the very reason every free citizen here opposses them.

Only weeks ago, a City Watchman tried to blackmail the Knights of Toboerski.

They accussed us of murdering citizens, even as we delivered food and medicene; even as we guarded the gates of the Canal, and escorted refuges to safety.

Yesterday, they carried their assault against justice and freedom a step further and murdered one of our men.

Despite my own desire to remain outside of politics, to leave this to my honorable Cousin Gregor Toboerski--I have no choice but to also run for City Council. Only the two of us, in unison can root out this level of corruption.

I vow, upon the death of Eristhenes Tichteran that I will root out the corruption in the Watch and shall not rest.

Eristhenes Tichteran will not be forgotten.
