We already have a location where you can pay to be transported by raft/ferry to particular locations, but I was wondering if an option to be transported to Fort Mur would be possible.
It would of course be a rather expensive trip, give the nature of the Fort as well as those that frequent it. But I figure if the little boat person will take you to a certain island for a fee, Fort Mur does not seem all that different.

Sounds like a fine idea to me.

You need to give it a decent cost to make it applicable against battling through the monsters in the Underdark to get there.

I don't know I think that you should have to walk the underdark. I mean, the wild areas are not that big around the city and if you can just transport everywhere where is the fun in being in the dangerous underdark?

For one, it's dangerous. And secondly, it's the Underdark.
It's part of the setting. If you can constantly bypass all the danger that is inherent in the setting through means other than stealth or spells, then what is the point?

I can't object due to fears of people "avoiding dangers" when the idea is sensible.
A ferry to Mur should exist, it has a dock. The Blue Mushroom has a dock. Ships can travel from one dock to another.
It costs 150 gold to buy an invisibility potion that lets you run to Mur as it is. If it costs more than that to take the ferry, that's fine and reasonable although even 100 seems a good price to me.
If people want danger, it would be really fun to have a random chance that the ferry is attacked on the way to Mur by beholder-kin, kuo-toa, lizardfolk, or drow pirates. In fact, I dare say that would ROCK.
I'd love to be on a little svirneblin ferry in the middle of the Dark Lake fighting for my life against kuo-toa raiders while a few hardy svirneblin sailors try to defend us all and man a ballistae on their vessel.

Last I saw, this was EfU not Pirates of the Carribean. XD

The point is, that is an ISLAND, only one way to get there, a boat. You cannot swim in NWN. What is next then, transport to the Blue Mushroom? To the Lost Shop? Or any of the other various secret places and shops hidden around the module.
I agree that adding transports is a bad idea for the setting. Getting to lower was one thing and I still did not like the idea. Walk around geez, it's not that far. Hire a guide if you need to! Hell, would you cross a frontier you don't know without a guide in RL, Hell no you wouldn't.

Off topic slightly --
Why oh why does everyone think Sslal'teesh is an island? Is it written that it's an island somewhere? Everyone always assumes it is. The area name is even "North Shore - Sslal'teesh" which to me would imply that the lizardfolk have a city on the north shore of the lake.
On topic --
I love pirates. I'd like a ferry, a random chance of ambush along the way would be even more sweet.

I would love a ferry put in also. It makes sense and would be a blast if it were occaisionally (or often! ) ambushed along the way!

that would imply that more than one person would be on the boat at once..i do not care to be ambushed by drow all by myself on a rickitty boat with a few dumbass npc sailors defending me **unless the sailors were dm controoleed** and what if ya lost? ya would eb SLAVE!((again)) my point is unless ya can script that the entire party will be there do not do this

with a chance of pirates the ferry system should support parties, as we assume if two people are going together and one is attacked by pirates, the other would be too, plus it would give them a chance to fight a pirate bording party. what fun would that be!?
answer: a lot.

Maybe make it so that it leaves every 5 minutes or so, takes 5 minutes, stays there 5 minutes, instantly heads back, rinse and repeat. That would mean if people just need to drop off a package, they could deliver it then hop back on, and multiple people could go on every 5 minutes. Make it so for the 10 minutes after it's left it's not there. It would also stop rich people popping off to Mur to buy some shibbidy stuff with no danger.

The boat can take one person at a time, or a PARTY at a time. That's easy to script.

hmmm. i like this idea. ....if we can ever use it. seriously who ever goes to ssalatash place or whatever? only one of my charctors went there. and i just got back on de boat real quick like.((went for the exploration exp)) and the boarding parties would also mean pirate docks right? few more quests for the wayword party. we can raid pirate bases for items they would of stolen. and the dm's can make quests on this by making a big fleet and they land so we have to defend the mines by extension the blue inn by extension sanctuary. these fleet encounters will have to be rare though. how big is the dark lake ....i do not know if it is big what is the chance of a pirate finding a lone ship in a big mass of black water?

I think when the term "lake" is used in the underdark, it is much larger than we normally think of it. Lakes in the under darkcan be quite large. But if you take to the waters with lights and torches blazing on deck, then I imagine you would atract attention quickly. I would also think that Transyr would be pretty active in the water for both defense and import/exporting. SO running into another shio might happen often enough to warrant this.

Our Dark Lake is indeed vast, perhaps equivalent in size to Lake Superior in the US. Our section of the module is only a small part of it though, sort of in the south east corner of it where it's not very long across from north to south.

...okay...if e get boreded i am expecting some drow loot. like a drow longsword. seriously aren't the drow the most powerful race in the underdark? what would be the chances of victory **what lvl is the average drow npc?)) not high i bet. pirates would be tougher by extension there experince in battle....man this is gonna be awsome

made some missplellings on borded i meant boarded. also ther is a chance for lkae creatures to board your ship righ? the dark lake is not a deserted piece of watrer. i think we would fing monseter and some mean lak creature. hell it would be awsome if a lake creature could board while you fighting lol

I think Howland added a simple ferry system recently.
I am looking into various ways to implement "boarding" and properly handle situations such as, for example, the entire party being wiped out.
If it works, it will be really nifty.
