I was hoping i could sell my buffing magic to lower levels as they quest as a source of extra income. I've been politely pointed out from another player this approach is actually illegal as it imbalances the quest. So I thought I'd quickly ask if I can do it. If not I'll try something else.
Question on buffs
I've heard that this is illegal as well. However, on your behalf I will point out that the Priest in the Hold will buff people who request it for a price. I've never done it myself, but that is because I'm cheap and would rather die than lose gold.
Personally, I don't see why it would be as they could get it simply by buying potions.
I think it's okay so long as you price your spells sensibly, perhaps only slightly cheaper than potions (Or the same price, or maybe more expensive, since your buffs will last longer).
Just don't go around stoneskinning level 2 people for 10 gold.
Doing it for new players who just ran out of the mausoleum wearing burial rags = Perfectly welcome
Doing it for a random group, charging a reasonable sum = All right
Doing it for a random group, charging practically nothing = Not so good
Doing it for someone you know OOC to help him level more quickly = Terrible
Also, take into account your patron deity. Ask youself if the blessings he/she grants you are being but to use, to further their dogma. A Tormtar cleric buffing a group to slay undead is certainly worthy, but a Banite cleric buffing a group, in pretty much any circumstance, wouldn't make sense (unless of course you made them all kneel and pray to Bane in fear, or they are Banites themselves).
lol shes sorceress... :P
perhpas i start this as well, sounds a good idea haha
Ah, I assumed you were a cleric. <_<
I've actually started the same sort of thing with my Vergadain priest, I charged 15 gold for a magic weapon. I was thinking maybe increasing the price, but I'm not sure. What's the verdict?
Try adding a 0.
015 gold?
I think it's 15.0 gold.
>.>
Okay I'm getting a yes, but within reason type of answer. So I think I will go with my idea... I'm sure I can keep it sensible.
well, if it is too high, they just wont do it. if it is too low, a dm would tell you about it.
((well, i know dms are not our nannies, but we sure need thier guide))
I dont see there being any problem with this seeing as how we already have charecters that do similar things. (ie selling scrolls and potions they have made) In regards of pricing id imagine a good way of doing it is to ask yourself how much you wold charge for a potion or scroll of said spell then add about 25 to 100 gold to the price.
15 gold for a magic weapon is perfectly fine. I'll look it up in the DMG tonight, but I would be unsurprised if the formula for how much it costs for an NPC to cast a spell with 0 component cost is Caster Level * Spell Level * 5 or 10 gold.
As Howland said, so long as you're doing it for IC reasons, I really don't think we'll have very much trouble with it.

I think the thing to keep in mind is the nature of the buff. General buffs like ability score increases, protection from alg, and blessings seem like reasonable spells that someone might seek out in a hostile environment. Quest specific buffs stink of meta-gaming--unless the buff is sought after entering, encounting a need for a specific spell, then retreating.
If you know what to encounter, yes.
(but dont expect people to come to warehouse, see undead and come back, another matter here is time wasting. in PnP people would just say iy, here they need to walk one way, and then walk back. would be nice to RP it only if one of the players in the group is doing it first time - something which i tend to do)
Dms, can we give us some quests with diffrent mosnter types? like portal? It seems kinda rara... (would be best if there was some one or two random types - one cannot tell what to face)
