To the honourable Alexander Archibald
As you requested, I hereby enclose details on the library project we discussed.
This library's halls would be filled with blanks books, upon which an individual would be able to record his own sum of knowledge. Hopefully this will contribute to preserve the city’s lore and history.
People would be free to write about their adventures, happenings and quests. I believe that in this way we would be able to record, share and most importantly preserve much of the knowledge that is currently dispersed amongst the citizens of the town and often lost when one of them passes into Kelemvor's realm.
This establishment will gather for the benefit of the town a collection of geographical and ethological lore, alongside the lore of the Underdark, its sentient races and dangers in general. Important and events would also be logged for the benefit of citizens and historians both, and a record and description of magical items and such could be kept. A town such as ours, permanently vulnerable in a hostile land, cannot afford to deny itself such a valuable weapon as knowledge.
We will have trained scholars acting as librarians, to organize and verify everything that is written. Anything without supporting testimonies is placed under a measure of scrutiny. We believe that a library will school the populace; people would be able to learn from the experience of others, hopefully ensuring the survival of many.
An organization such as this will also offer the various factions access to information gathered by citizens without drawing valuable time from their own members. It will also allow the city to establish a record of heraldry, distinguished citizens and their contribution to the city.
Understandably a project such as this will require coin to see it into completion. Any funding you can offer would greatly aid this library. We are currently considering allowing the biggest benefactors to also have the honour of naming the library. Regardless of that, those who aid the construction of the library will have their names commemorated in some manner.
