Disease

I know that in a medieval setting such as the Forgotten Realms, generally the great mysteries of nature are unknown as they were to the actual people of the dark ages. But, with gods and godesses of nature who actually exist -some- of their knowledge must belong to the mortal who worship them, right? My specific question is how much would a Talonite know about disease? Could one know the differences between a virus and bacteria? Would they know about host animals (creatures that can carry the disease without dying)? How some of these diseases work on a basic level (a virus becoming dormant in a crystal-like stage until it comes in contact with live tissue)? Ect... The question is in the most extreme case, perhaps a scholar or a Talonite dedicated to knowing how diseases work, that is the limits of what you as DMs feel comfortable with as possible within the setting. Obviously the average ranger or farmer or paladin wouldn't know these things, but the afore-mentioned seekers of specificknowledge perhaps? Thanks.
