A Letter to Sgt. Marshall of the Watch

Sgt. Marshall.

I do not have to tell what a difficult job true leadership is. I had high hopes for further cooperation between the Watch and the Clan Stoutheart.

However.

While defending his honor from the Malcontent half Orc Maalgor, Standing Clan Champion Maldure Doomblade, was arrested by Watchman Lockwood, tried, and Exiled.

How is it this happens, when you granted us feeless Bounty upon those scum? Maalgor is even a warranted Criminal, yet my shield brother is the one tried and exiled under pain of execution should he violate this? Since when is a person granted bounty upon a criminal, the one to get arrested for trouncing said criminal?

The Clan as a whole is growing extreamly tired of such prejudicial actions. Your private Lockwood, has been nothing but an aggravated arse ranger, since the day that Maldure beat him senseless in the Arena. His petty jealousy and desire for vengance, as well as his irritating attempts at drawing payment for his protection, have grown tiresome.

We do our best to provide you with expert aide, and yet are picked apart, belittled, arrested, harassed, and worse, for simply doing as you asked.

We are not Amused. I TRUELY hope this is simply some sort of Misunderstanding. I shall be sending a grievance to the Council as well.

One of those from the fracass of the Crone where you ended up face down in the ditch could have been yours, wrapped with a pretty bow and delivered for True Justice. Then, Lockwood interferes again, and Exile for a proven Stout, doing his duty and defending his honor, with just his hands, is the only result.

Now, threat of execution is above the head of one that simply was doing his duty as dictated, his honor tarnished by Idiocy incarnate, your Private Lockwood.

Sincerely,

Akevitt Anvilsmasher, Hammer of Moradin, Defender of Tornbeard Hall, Forth Thane of the Clan Stoutheart.

*Ever the epitome of effcient destruction of all that is evil, including red tape, Akevitt drafts a second copy, addressed to Sgt. Durris, and sends it on the heels of the first one.*

Sgt. Durris,

May this letter find you well and in good spirits. Enclosed is a copy of the missive I have sent to Sgt. Marshall. Since the two of you and Bungo Tadle are the only competant members of the entire watch, I would not see you befrit of the complaint and information I have sent to her as well.

Moradin preserve.

~Akevitt Anvilsmasher, Forth Thane of the Clan Stoutheart, Defender of Tornbeard Hall, hammer of Moradin.

Akevitt Anvilsmasher,

To assume that Maldure has been arrested based on a prejudice from one of the privates is absolute nonsense. Maldure was not arrested and exiled for this single incident, he was arrested and exiled for Sustained Criminal Activity. This was his fifth arrest, and the Private saw fit to bring to Trial a dangerous and chaotic element in the city, who was exiled, due to his complete and utter lack of respect for the law.

Furthermore, I find it exceptionally hard to believe that Maldure assaulted the orcblood based on the 'bounty' Marshall issued to you. You've even stated it yourself. 'Defending ones honor' is not a valid excuse to assault someone.

I firmly suspect that had you and your clan any interest in capturing the men Marshall put this 'bounty' on, they would be caught by now. All evidence is currently to the contrary, and you can consider the bounty null and void from now on. Do not assault citizens illegally inside the town. And in future incidences, I suggest you teach your stouts that if they have to defend their "honor" then they should take it to the officially sanctioned arena in Upper Sanctuary.

Lockwood, as much of an idiot as he is, did exactly as he should have done in this situation. He was, as you say, 'simply doing his duty as dictated,' and now his 'honor' is being tarnished because he arrested a fool dwarf with no regard for the law.

Enclosed is a copy of the trial records and Maldure's own extensive file of arrests, including several counts of assault just like this one, and Endangerment, as ordered by the Mayor of Sanctuary.((PMed.))

Sergeant Durris.
