This city lies in ruins.
It's gates smashed, barrels block the way in. Half it's residents are refugees less than five hundred feet from their homes as brigands and thugs rule through murder, intimidation and theft. Enemies surround us, actively looking for us, weaker foes who need the plunder and are willing attack us heedlessly.
And our Council sits idle.
The gates have been smashed for several weeks now and they remain this way, wide open for whatever army comes next.
Lower Sanctuary is still in utter and complete disarray. The people under the Council's guard and protection are ignored and left for the wolves as boys who think born steel makes them true men rule without fear.
And this city's rulers, an oligarchy no less, do nothing. This cannot be tolerated, lax leadership is what led to all of this and lax leadership is what will continue to be this city's downfall.
Sanctuary needs strong men. Brave men who are as tempered as the steel they carry. Not men who sit in robes and bicker around long tables when action must be taken. A time for deliberation is for before a time of crisis, when our city lies sieged and fallen will we still sit in our rooms and talk of the best course of action?
Harsh action must be taken, Lower cannot remain in the hands of criminals and brigands while it's true people hide away. We cannot elevate common brigands to the status of Lords or Rulers in their own right, we cannot encourage brigands to take what is not theirs so they might be acknowledged for the reckless power they wield.
I am a man with the mettle to see this done. I am a man with the blood of a Baelister of Cormyr flowing through my veins, and as a noble born, I've the skill, patience and knowledge to see this done. All Noble men and leaders know they've an obligation to their subjects and people. This obligation the current Councilors have failed. There is no stability or peace, only more strife -within- our own broken walls.
I will be the first and last Baelister to offer my blade to Sanctuary, but under my leadership, I will not be the last man.
Signed,
Sir Mormont Baelister
