Letter to the Dwarves of Tornbeard Hall

Written in neat, elegant, flowing calligraphy.

Esteemed Dwarves of Tornbeard Hall,

My name is Miss Mylee Davenport, an archivist and assistant scribe within the city and one who is concerned, as perhaps we all should be, at the safety and integrity of the city. Especially now with the unfortunate recent happenings. With the city in chaos it is left weakened and ripe for attack either on the undefended lower gates or on the non-existant upper gates. It is my hope that in the near future we will be able to work together perhaps, to begin correcting what has been left undone for far too long already.

I currently am in the possession of revised plans for braces that once made, should reinforce the gates to add a substantial increase to the durability of the gates to withstand attack. In order to be able to get them made and placed usefully however, the upper gates must be prepared and the braces must be smithed. I write to you because it is well known that Dwarven culture has far and wide produced many renowned artificers and metalsmiths. It is my hope, and perhaps the cities, that some may have found brotherhood within your Hall and your Clan.

To rebuild the upper gates we can easily copy plans and measurements from the existing gates, resized and matched to any imperfections or changes in the size of the gate mount structures from one side to the other. I would offer that with a bit more research I would be able to draw up such plans quickly. However, the lack of materials is certainly the most pressing matter. We will need ore, will need it smelted and refined, and then well wrought into the gate body, the hinges, and the braces. For that we will need access to a forge, which I am hoping that your Clan has access too. I would offer that if we are able to mine our ore, refine and work it ourselves, and produce our gates, it will reduce the cost significantly from what it might to go to the Grey Dwarves. Honestly, I would trust our own construction by hands interested in Sanctuary over the best of their metalsmiths, and am hoping that such talent lies not far behind the doors of your Hall.

I would ask for a meeting, so that we may discuss this need, and perhaps begin the search for the needed ore or metal we need. May you be quick in responding, the city of Sanctuary has great need for those to stand and act. For your strength I thank you, and your Clan. I may be reached by letter at the archives of the Town Hall, or at the Rock Bottom Inn. I am often found studying in both.

if i can be allowed access to good metal and a forge i can forge the needed parts and will do it free of labour costs, please write back if you are able to locate a forge that i may use, we may be able to get the metal required and please send any diagrams of what you want built to the hall please.

in the same neat script

Masterforgeman Runehammer,

I do thank you for the response to my letter, as well as the concern for the welfare of the city. That there is a forge within the walls of the city that is in use, I think that perhaps yes, though ones certainly not suited for the task at hand. I know of no forges large enough from the city records where we would be able to build something so large.

The fact remains that forges should exist within the walls I think, the evidence of gnomish metalwork is all about us. Perhaps we can engage ourselves in a search of the Dunwarren area and perhaps the Bowels for a suitable forge with which to carry out the needed smithing and smelting. I will begin to organize such quickly.
