    Mayor Yorrick Bresley,

On behalf of the Society of the Ordered Mind, I would like to make an appeal to you regarding the restricted access to the area known as the sand caverns. While it is true that the crusade lead by Ordinant Brighthammer did provoke a counter-attack by Ysinode, there are precautions that may be taken to prevent this from repeating itself. As you are well aware, we of the Society are duty-bound to venture into the dark pits of the Underdark to do battle against the aberrations. With this restriction in place however, we find ourselves limited to destroying the occasional lesser beholderkin and a few infestations of hook horrors and umber hulks every now and then. The greatest threats to Sanctuary and all good beings of Faerun; the Illithid and the Eye Tyrants, remain beyond our reach.

I wish to inform you of what actions would be taken, should you decide to re-evalute the situation and issue a decree granting all Ordinants of the Society leave to access the sand caverns at their own discretion.

As far as anyone can tell, the only way to access Sanctuary from the sand caverns is through the twisted tunnels between eastern underdark and the windy canyon. Should another attack upon Sanctuary be imminent, these tunnels would be the best location to make our stand at as the hordes of aberrations would not as easily be able to use their great numbers against us, the tunnels serving as a bottleneck, thinning them out. However, as the sand caverns are still inaccessible to us, we are unable to perform a proper search for any alternate ways to get past the tunnels. It would be grievous to make our stand only to find that their armies have found a way to get behind our lines, would it not? We should like to scour the area thoroughly and make certain that the aberrations shall not gain the upper hand in any future attack.

Furthermore, it should also be mentioned that there are those who are trespassing into the Sandy caverns on a regular basis -- this much I have found during my patrols through the windy canyon and the dungeon leading down towards the ramp. Regretfully I have not been able to detain anyone as of yet due to their skills at stealth, illusion and various magical trickery. I do however believe that these unsavory individuals have claimed a lair or somesuch within the caverns, which is something else the Society would strive to locate. These individuals may be in contact with the aberrations, making dark pacts sealing the fate of Sanctuary.

You have proven to be a wise and trusted friend to the Society on many occasions, and I pray that you will recognize the necessity of our request.

May the blessings of Torm go with you.

Sincerely, Ordinant Crownguard The Society of the Ordered Mind
