Not happy

Not sure what to file this under, but a couple of hours ago, a small group of us (2 fighters, a mage and a rogue) went to take on the Troll mission.

Just as we were leaving victoriously, for some reason something along the lines of 15 trolls spawned in between us and the exit. Needless to say, we were all wiped out very quickly.

Now the question(s) is:

a. Why did this happen, was it DM intervention or just a stupidly random script which did this? b. If this was DM intervention, what the hell was he/she thinking? This mod is hard enough as it is without dumping a ton of trolls on top of you for no apparent reason, other than to wipe out the party.

Finally I would like to say that either way, this little black duck is going elsewher, because any mod which allows this kind of bullshit, and then enforces a 30% xp penalty and the loss of all your gear (with little or no chance of recovering it), is in my opinion not worth playing.

Farewell from someone who was loyal to EftU for many months...

I'm sorry you're not happy. If you as a player wish to make a complaint about some aspect of the module, the correct way to do so is to send an e-mail to the DM account at escapefromunderdark@gmail.com

Trolls do spawn outside their cave as part of our random-encounter system, and I imagine could be a nasty surprise if your party was heading out single-file. I believe there is even a very rare chance of a quite large troll spawn near the bridge outside the cave. The idea of spawns being randomized out in the underdark is, in my opinion, one of the module's strengths. Many parties choose to scout out territory before they head out, and most characters that survive travel with plenty of invisibility potions in the event they are outmatched.

If you were ambushed by trolls within the quest area, it's possible you either missed a trigger encounter on your first pass through but triggered it on the way back, stumbled into one of the side-islands that hadn't been cleared yet, or received some DM spice.

If you received DM spice, it is possible that too many trolls you were spawned. Another possibility is that it was legitimate spice that your party did not handle well, and thus you died. There are some players who use their heads, cooperate, and react well when something unexpected happens. They use supplies, retreat if needed, and do not complain but rather embrace additional challenges. I honestly believe these players will have much more fun than those players who react to the unexpected by OOC panic or anger.

I'm sorry that you felt the best way to leave the module was to leave a misguided and angry tirade on our forums. But good luck elsewhere!
