[DM] To the Mayor and Sheriff and Captain

[Two seperate letters are dispatched to the offices of the Mayor and the Sheriff each containing the following letter:]

Esteemed [Mayor Bresley or Sheriff Walters or Captain of the Tigereye Mercenary Company],

We lend our apologies for taking up your busied time to read this letter, but the Society of the Ordered Mind and its Ordinants have something necissary to communicate to you.

We have recently been threatened by the citizens of this town due to our decisive and hasty actions at the Steady Hand tavern. These threats include burning down our Chapterhouse, attacking and attempting to kill us, and promising our deaths if we enter Lower Sanctuary. We have the names of these persons, but we do not feel the need to disclose them. If you, esteemed sir, feel the need, then please respond asking for them.

At this time, though, we can do no more except ignore these threats. This is because we have already explained our actions to the defensive groups of the city and we have already tried to depict our actions using a public essay, therefore there is little else in our power to do.

We are sorry that we had to opperate in a situation which was not within our jurisdiction, but the event was so fraught with chaos that we had little choice to keep pressing forward.

The purpose of this message is to tell you this: We will defend ourselves against your citizens if we must. [on the Mayor's copy the period here is quite large, and there is a brief inked-out section which is followed by the rest of the letter.] We sincerely hope that such will not be the case. Now that amends have been made with the city's organizations, we would hope that it would be in their power to spread to the people the intelligence that the Society is not the enemy, the illithid is. If we are attacked we will not be liable for the results of defending ourselves against your citizens. So please, endevour to cut this angry and blinded mob off at the head before it runs rampant. We may have preformed disagreeably, but we do not deserve death threats. If outspoken thugs successfully spur citizens to destroy a private organization within this city (especially one what hs done a service to the city, despite its outward hostile appearance), it will not speak well to the integrity of the heads of the city who's purpose it is to govern its people wisely.

Again, if this is allowed to get out of hand, our actions will not be pleasant for anyone, especially ourselves.

Sincerely, Ordinant Laramie Lathae. Speaking for The Society of the Ordered Mind.

The letters are received

Society,

I am aware of the situation and am fully sympathetic to your position. Unfortunately the passions of the citizens of the Lower Ward are easily enflamed, and I ask that you be discreet in your dealings with the citizens of Lower until time has passed.

Mayor Bresley
