I like this quest in theory, but the rewards are not terribly worthwhile.
Like many of the "gather" quests, you just don't get much.
I went in with my 5th level guy four times, each time he got less than 40 xp in total for the entire quest and 150 gold. We also found a neat trinket, but its nothing to write home about from the boss monster.
I took in a level 1 PC who got a total of 350 xp and 150 gold.
The quest really could use a better payout, as with all the other "gather" item quests. The items are the real source of experience on most of these it seems, not the foes. Yet overall you get MUCH less xp and even gold.
Thomas specifically could use:
1) some ambient items on the foes; even if its just burial jewelry.
2) some items buried with the corpses maybe
3) corpses preserved with varying states of 'loving care' worth more or less to Thomas.

If it wasn't for the *spoilers* with damage reduction and the nasty boss monster, the quest would almost be worthwhile, but I have to agree that currently you often need to spend more resources than what the payout is worth. What I don't understand, among some of the things Oro already mentioned, is why some of the coffins are randomly empty. Realistic? Maybe, but also very annoying since it will potentially cost you very much: there are some monster-filled hallways with only one coffin at the end of it.
If all of the coffins had something worthwhile in them, I'd be happy.

stop thinking about loot! :P
as was said in aonther thread, there is too much loot...
(ohh dm, im soo dead now.. dms, kill kaddaz for me (private joke))
well, i've been there once. the random loot makes it more interesting, take a fine rogue, and all the monsters mean nothing :)

I went with Oro, we got 1 trinket that was niftyish and 5 *pick up items*. I got 360 exp, as he said, and 150 gold. There are traps that can take out a chunk of 20 hp, which can kill a low level Wizard easily, and without Oro's massive strength, we would have had out arses kicked. All that for the above mentioned is really quite pathetic as you can get more on Boggs from the same level with a lot less almost deaths.

perhaps, but thats what makes the quest more thrilling...
i found the quest quite enjoyable (if only it was less evil =( )
loot or not, if i find some IG reason to do it (may, for example wont do it).
perhaps boggs is more "profitable", but are we to hack'n'slash? profit is not the questiong here.
yes, less loot makes quests less wanted... but boggs became quite boring =S perhaps the only reason i do it more (else from the IG reason) is the position of the place (though this is not the topic here, is it?)
