Letter to the Council

It disturbs me greatly that the Watch is attempting to commandeer control of the city's defenses. What is worse is that the Watch, while following my cousin's advise in establishing a defense council now seeks to threaten and bully anyone who attends the Council as if defense is some issue over which the Watch has sole interest and need of control.

I submit the following correspondences, and wish to suggest to the Council that they immediately make it clear that they, and any duly appointed representatives maintain fully control of this project. It is highly necessary, but should be controlled by elected officials with the city's best interest in mind. It clearly should not be run by the lower ranks of the city watch.

A specific member of the city Council, one clearly experienced in the defenses required during times of war should oversee the Council. Not this "sergeant" Durris. Barring that, the Council should appoint a nuetral overseer to the organization. I can well imagine the political and complicated fall-outs that shall occur when this "sergeant" Durris decides his rivals in the Tigereyes are "harassing" him. Worse yet is this man's insulting tone of voice, blatantly accusing the Councilors and their representives from the very start that we will derail the defense process.

The Council alone runs Sanctuary. The Council therefore must oversee any project directly that influences how Sanctuary is governed or defended. One can perhaps understand the Sheriff overseeing this project, or Commander Simms; but certainly not some practically randomly chosen member of the Watch's lowest ranks.

Sir Dungal Toboerski Grand Magistrate of the Knights of Toboerski

Mister Toboerski,

I think Sergeant Durris is able to handle the gathering of the Defence Council, as well as seeing that there will be no manipulation from the other members, or that the peace will be held at it's meetings.

I myself intend to participate in this endeavour as much as I am able from my other duties. If there will be any foul play, I assure you, I will intervene and end it immediately.

Councilor Kayragh

Dungal Toboerski,

I'm glad that Sergeant Durris has taken the initiative to form the defence council, and he has so far shown himself very capable of managing it.

Arguing and bickering between factions is one of Sanctuary's greatest problems, slowing down or halting almost everything we strive to accomplish. The restriction for the defence council only makes good common sense.

You say that the worst part is Sergeant Durris' "insulting tone of voice," however, reading over the correspondance, it seems that Durris was practical and courteous, while you responded with animosity and insults.

In any case, as you already know, the Council has nine people sitting on the defence council, while everyone other organization has one person there at every meeting, and one appointed second. I think its very clear that the defence council is still in the "control" of the city's elected officials.

-Shane

EDIT: Added quickly to the bottom of the letter right before it is sent:

Also, I feel like this defence council is an excellent opportunity for the leaders of Sanctuary to put aside differences and come together. Division is one of our greatest weaknesses. I hope that people's personal goals won't interfere with what could become a move towards unity.
