I will be going back to my university in 2 weeks.... in a move which crosses the line between sanity and facism(i'll call anyone who stops my IRC a facist or worse), my school blocks the ports associated with IRC.
This means no #efu and no IRC chat...... :(.
The ports associated with IRC are blocked, there is no work around I can concieve, unless someone has a clever solution.....
Any chance anyone here who runs any sort of constant server will help me set up a port forwarding scheme? Total bandwith use is minimal.
If anyone has any sort of solution I am all ears.

My college blocked IRC, but typing "/server irc.darkmyst.org 5000" worked.

At one point it stopped working, and typing "/server irc2.darkmyst.org 5000" worked in its place. Go figure!

Alternatively, run IRC on your PC at home and use LogMeIn to access it (like I do  )

6668 works for me at uni. Normal irc is 6667. Only some darkmyst servers support that though (like luminous) so you'll have to play around.

Not an option for me.... unless you'd let me piggy back on your connection Ommadawn heh?
Its not that much bandwith, come on!
I am pretty sure all ports associated with IRC are blocked, I don't think 5000 would work.

It's unlikely that your college is "blocking IRC", becuase that requires some pretty serious administration and application level firewalls. It's more likely that just ports commenly used are being blocked, so I'd try what's been recommended here and give some different port numbers a try. Darkmyst appearently accepts quite a number of ports, so you won't have a problem with the server refusing the connection on a foriegn port.
Lot's of other ways to do it too. You can even use the http based system hosted on darkmyst.org. http://darkmyst.org/?page=webchat I used this while I was at work for the summer. XD

It is blocking all ports normally associated with IRC, not IRC itself.
I didn't know darkmyst had a webclient... i'll see if that works when I get to school.
