Helping New People

This may have been addressed someplace but I couldn't find it- I have (or rather my character, Morwen has) helped several new people - I wanted to make sure I would not get in trouble for gifting them things like a heal potion or some random gee-gaws that I am carrying and have no real use for. Many places have strict rules against loading up new characters with goodies, but I felt so long as it was strictly IC I would not get into any trouble.

Also related- Sanctuary seems to be on the end of a magick tornado of some kind 'cause I've met two people in as many days who were fighting battles someplace and suddenly found themselves in Upper

Just trying to say out of trouble...

Well from my perspective a lot of my characters have always helped out newcomers with bits and pieces and in some circumstances has paid to completely outfit a new character and then adventured with them until they could pay the money back or in some cases not even worry about that.

I like doing this IC - the most notable time for me was with a character called Chell, Priest of Torm, to outfit a lost lonely Elven Priestess of Eilisatrae called Eowung and those two characters have been like Brother and Sister ever since.

I hope there is nothing wrong with doing this or I have been breaking the rules for many months.

Cheers

Its IC for your PCs to do it, its fine. Alot of my characters have basically paid for outfitting a new arrival with a solid set of gear, including platemail. They were my cleric's warriors, and he wanted to see them protected as best he could manage. There is no rule against that.

Doing things like just giving people you know OOC but not IC new gear for free, especially if say its a Banite shelling out gear for a Cyricist or whatever, then it becomes exploitation, which is bad.

Yeah caddies has got it spot on aslong as its IC its fine...but if your an evil bitch dont go around giving paladins or opposing diety worshippers presents it doesnt look very good to the dm's...

Unless it's poisoned food and drink :)
