I'm just going to stick songs here now and again. Feel free to add.
Today, i listened once more to Starbucks as performed by 'A' - the ULTIMATE leaving work tune.
Okay, so it's "Nu" metal, and this is probably going to be their only (slight) hit, but it's a fantastic, rocking tune. And they were pretty good live, too.

Nu metal is on its way out, and not a day too soon either. Only a handful of Nu Metal songs are passable. I've heard only a little bit of A stuff, but from what I remember it was a sort of rip off Rage Against the Machine style get up.
The song of the moment for me is Horse Called War by Zakk Wylde. Hard to get it to sound as good as he does. He's the hairy axe wizard.

I'm listening to alot of 'Ayreon' these days. It's synth-heavy prog rock/metal with alot of guest artists (like Bruce Dickinson) made by some guy from the Netherlands.
I recommend: Ayreon - Dawn Of A Million Souls

And try not to start a debate about how bad some music is, or this thread will deteriorate quickly. I could say alot of bad stuff about nu-metal as well, but I won't ;)

If you’re a Joe Strummer fan, get into some of his work with the Mescaleros.
In particular, Streetcore (incidentally the final recordings before his death), I would venture to say features some of Strummer’s finest work since the early Clash days.

I will now use this forum to foist my indie sensibilities upon you.
"You Are a Runner and I Am My Father's Son" by Wolf Parade. Check it out and let me know if you like it. Since there's no other song of the day, that's it.

Dream Theater's "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence" -42 minutes of sonic euphoria. For only being one song, damn. *completely ignores the first disc of the album, although it isn't bad at all*
Dream Theater's "Scenes From a Memory" - 77 minutes of sonic euphoria. 12 tracks of world-changing crazy ass "can't describe it even if I wanted to" aural power! A must-listen.
Someone mentioned Ayreon. That's good stuff too. "The Human Equation" has a lot of different guests and styles on it, so if you like one artist, you can pursue his work elsewhere. Ayreon is a good sampler.
Neal Morse's "?" is perhaps one of the most amazing things I've heard in the past few years. If you don't mind the Christian lyrics (I don't at all. It's done quite tastefully, in my opinion.) this is a really great album, and the third of his "Christian Epics" released since leaving Spock's Beard.
Speaking of which, Spock's Beard and basically anything Neal Morse is currently or has been involved with is pure gold. The man is a genius. I have not heard a bad album from his efforts yet, which is damn impressive for going on an 11 year professional career. If you're interested in Spock's Beard, I highly recommend "Snow", Morse's last album before leaving as the lead singer and songwriter.
For those wanting a more "growling" edge to their music, I highly recommend Opeth. Opeth is perhaps the best death metal band I've ever heard. Only In Flames comes close to them, in my opinion. Most death metal is sickening and revolting, but Opeth manages to pull it off tastefully with deep lyrics and sound melodies.
In case you haven't noticed, I love prog music. This is only the tip of the iceberg, though. I have plenty more recommendations where that came from. :)

Today i listened to UNDER THE BRIDGE as performed by THE RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS.
I know music is subjective and everything, and that one man's lyrical heaven is another mans literal hell, but if there was one tune i think i will still enjoy as a doddery old man, when i eventually get to the age where my main pleasure in life is going into my back garden and shaking my walking stick at any children trying to steal apples from the tree i will plant SOLELY for that purpose, it's this one.
High praise indeed.
