Important: Drow Briefing to Major Factions

A roll of parchment bound with a red ribbon carrying the seal of Sanctuary Watch is hand delivered to many major factions by a Watch Private. People who recieve this are:

  • Sanctuary Council
  • The Spellguard
  • The Seekers
  • The Civil Defence League
  • Tornbeard Dwarves
  • House of Light
  • Hemite Shrine
  • Dungal Toboerski
  • Tigereyes
  • Society of the Ordered Mind

Esteemed Citizens of this town,

It has come to the point where the countdown given to us by Drow hostiles have left us where we may be attacked in a little over a day. Their demands are listed below, as well as what little intelligence we have on the situation.

In response to this, we have little option but to prepare the town defences and make sure we are ready for the worst. I would rather waste man power on preparing for nothing, than waste lives pretending it won't happen.

Your orders as well as the list of actions to be performed are listed below. I trust you all to not go shouting about but everyone must be notified of what is going on, and what we are All doing to prepare. This leaves no excuses for not assisting.

Gods Speed and may we hope we can settle this peacefully.

The imposed time leaves us little over a day from the time of this letter.

Drow Briefing

Draft: 4

Based upon current knowledge of what the Traensyr drow are up to, I have written this document to advise individuals of the task.

Basic Key Points:

  • Traensyr drow want 50,000 gold or 5 slaves off Sanctuary
  • Time limit is imposed upon the town to pay. One week following Tarsakh 16th.
  • Drow patrols have increased outside Traensyr including between us and Fort Mur
  • Sanctuarty citizens have been killed by drow on the Low Road
  • The Drow are pushing their point and have shown up Inside the town, warning us of the time limit.
  • The drow are extremely formiddable and highly dangerous. Capable of winning a 3:1 fight in the wilds.

Possible additional but unproven points:

  • A druid from the Sanctuary area attacked the Drow gates but was killed. This riled the drow to request "reparations"
  • Drow may have relocated again due to their positions bieng found by Sanctuarians

Additional Notes

  • Notes blaming the spellguard are going around. This may be merely to push blame onto someone. No known reason as to why they Would be to blame is known or reported.
  • The drow are supposedly just a single house from Traensyr. Their motive for this extortion is to fund their war machine for the unproven civil war happening in Traensyr.
  • Dungal Toboerski has reason to believe a planned counter attack now would seriously disable the drow.

Actions to be performed:

  • Decide whether the gold is available in Sanctuary
  • Prepare access to the gold should it be required
  • Decide as to whether the Drow will continue to attack irreguardless of whether they are paid or not. I believe they will leave us temporarily but I can not see what the ultimate penalty will be when the drow come back. We may be seen as an easy money target for the future.
  • Prepare defence reports - Done
  • Prepare and notify additional factions of the issue - half done

  • Prepare Watch Defences - Done. Orders to be given pending action of the council. If no decision is made, orders will be given:
    • Double Watch on gate.
    • Recruit Deputys from citizenry
    • Prepare ammunition for gate defences
  • Prepare Spellguard Defences:
    • Prepare Defender animatrons - Done
    • Manauvre defender animatrons into position - Done: Moments Notice
    • Place defender animatron on Lower Gate
    • Place extra defender animatron on Upper Gate
    • Start any additional magical defences
  • Seekers - Orders given to:
    • Recall all long range scouts due to danger of drow patrols - Done
    • Perform multiple regular missions on the edge of the Drow patrols to work out where the drow are. - Done
    • Notify the Watch directly of any changes in Drow movement
  • Decide as to whether a counter attack is neccesary. I believe that instead we may need to attempt to pay the Drow off, but should we be put in a situation of engagement, use Mister Toboerski's men and skill to perform a side or rear attack on the Drow positions, coming from out of the rear of the town. Any counter attack now may bring the drow to us quicker and heavier before we can prepare, given the previous odds reported in a fight, I doubt much effect will be gained.

  • Orders to the Tornbeard Dwarves
    • Prepare lockdown on the mine shaft
    • Notify Grunsubhle miners of danger and recommend temporary shut down
    • Limit access paths to the Sanctuary Gateway
    • Remain inside town for safety
  • Orders to the House of Light
    • Prepare the house to be used as medical centre and refugee house
    • Prepare to head to the gateways to aid defences if need be
  • Orders to the Tigereyes:
    • Double defenders on the gate
    • Limit access paths to the gateway
    • Prepare to collapse access tunnel
    • Trap and fill the passage that leads to the river north of the gate with caltrops and other such things.
  • Helmite Shrine:
    • Notify shrine of situation
  • Civil Defence League:
    • Prepare equipment and be ready
    • Make sure some of you know how to use siege equipment
    • Double patrols on Upper Sanctuary Gate
    • Warn anyone that going out of town now is Highly dangerous and should not be done

Drow Debriefing

Identical letters are sent out to all major factions and individuals. They all contain the same information, including that of comments and requests to other factions.

I have been given reports by multiple sources reguarding the following actions:

  • Five Citizens volunteered themselves as payment to the Drow.
  • A drow wizard appeared and told the citizens to go to the low road.

The defences are on a stand down but remain ready status for the next ten day. Noone is to forget that this threat has so simply passed.

Seekers: I want status reports of Drow movement as of now reguarding what has happened, whether they've stood down the external guard or not. I want any changes in their actions for the next tenday before resuming usual missions.

Everyone: I want to know:

  • Who's great idea was it to get people to voluenteer. I've had mixed reports as to it was Amolef of the tigers, A female elf, One of the volunteers. I Want to know and I want Facts.
  • About the druids who supposedly started all this off.
  • Any damage done by the Drow as well as any major losses sustained.

Tigereyes: It may be a good idea to leave the lower way blocked for a few days as a temporary measure, should this not be over. Beyond that I advise any objects used to block up the passages be merely pulled aside so that they may be moved back into place in an hour or so should the need arrise again.

Council: In future where there is a chance someone might invade, please, tell the Watch. We are not fond of having out job made difficult by lack of cooperation. I spent days finding out second hand knowledge which I could have had in the first day. You especially know the extra costs that would have been sustained should the town had to be readied in under an hour if a siege had begun.

*copied to all those the report went to originally*

This is proof positive why a single leader was necessary during this threat. If this report accurately portrays what occured, it was the result of a lack of a single strong leader in charge of our response and the way in which some prayed upon the fears of the gullible and weak to talk them into agreeing to slavery.

Regardless of whether the threat is past or not, the Council should pass legislation clearing the way for a War Leader in the future. So unfortunate breakdowns as occured here do not happen again. This is the second time the Council was still locked in debating a response while the drow arrived at the gate.

Scion Dungal

Sergeant,

As stated in an earlier report, I witnessed the entire event from start to finish. I will adress the questions you have posed.

-The man whose idea it was went by the name of Aseir Greycastle. He was also the first to volunteer. The Spellguard made strong efforts to back his decision, including keeping the case for endangerment away from trial and out of the councils hands. While the tigers certainly made no effort to stop Greycastle, from my perspective they did not seem to be behind it in any way.

-I've learned little of the Druids contribution to the problem other then through rumor. Rumor has it that they damaged an area of the drow city somehow, most commonly thought to have been caused by a fire, though a number of different stories have been proposed. My sources on this date all the way back to the Breen investigation.

-The Drow Wizard caused no damage to any city structures, however, did manage to kill a spellguard agent. I have heard no reports on any structual damage sustained from any of the other incidents, however, lose of life has been consistent throughout.
