Domestic Roles Perhaps

Sure the game is all about adventuring and treasure etc (talking about nwn) i for the many years that I have played nwn have seen this once, Domestic Roles, instead of creating a character around the idea of combat/adventuring/magic why not simple? I mean it may get dull and boring but are there not ways to spice things up? Im talking about simple tasks as Fungus Farming/Fishing and no I dont mean as a "skill" rather your living, I dunno all I know is for an RPG a profession can range from anything with help from the people that can really touch it the DMS, I dunno how popular this may be though but yeah I once played a gravedigger and thats all I did bury people it made me a better Rp'er I believe but yeah touchy subject I guess

Why not be a little more specific on how that could work? I'm curious.

I mean, I know Mandarin was a mushroom farmer who adventured for other reasons but I roleplayed that he spent time in the fields. I've seen other character who played butchers (errr surgeons). In another module I played on, we had a character who even played a waitress at a local bar selling food and drinks the inn keeper only let her have access too.

Hey now, watch it. :?

Yes, you can RP it out as if you had a side career with ease. I am the one who played the surgeon/physician, and whenever I had to log or I was gone for a few days, I warned other PCs that I had to do some work in the clinic, or this building fell over and I was forced to save three childrens' lives over partake in the city affairs, etc.... These kinds of things are fine, and add some nice depth to your character, as well as opening a great many new opportunities to interact with more people. For instance, extracting foreign objects through surgical procedures! If that's not fun, I don't know what is!

If you mean literally being able to go buy a rod at Speckard, cast it near the Dark Lake, and catch yourself an eyeless goblin shark... well, I don't really know. I figure you can always just emote RP this, you don't actually need to catch anything, and the same goes for mushroom farming. Works the same and you won't have to trash the fish when you're done.
