I was thinking, could there be such a thing in the IC forums like the library search in coa? Since it is not possible to be IG all the time and especially now when the server is not up 24/7 it would be helpfull. Like going into the bookstore and asking for a book or a dokument of a certain issue? (Of course this could be difficult since books cost, but maybe there could some way to do this, the bookstore was just an example).

Now that I have the new concept (whose inventory is supposed to be teeming with bought books and notes :wink: ), I would prefer this to be done on a PvP basis, which is well possible via forum letters or messages, that is, when you are not on. Many books are already IG and hopefully the number of documents will boost after an easy option for the PCs to write letters and books is introduced. Nothing easier than writing a forum letter to a PC recognized as a scholar or just as a well-informed guy.

There are also several NPCs who are regarded as scholars who can be similarly contacted, and you can contact the rare book dealer about buying books on a specific topic. For those unwilling or unable to pursue those avenues, you can always mention to a DM that you're taking a less straightforward approach to researching a particular topic, and we'll see to it that what knowledge should be available, is available in-game.

Unlike in established surface communities, however, there isn't a real "library" in Sanctuary (at least, not yet). Research of any sort will be a quagmire of inconsistencies, biased and politicized accounts, incomplete references, and missing pieces at best-- and at worst, there simply won't be any recorded knowledge on certain topics, either because nobody has bothered to write anything down... or because what recorded knowledge existed was, at one point in the past, aggressively hunted down and destroyed.

As much as I like writing excerpts of books for people to read, I think that a clean-cut "library thread" would, essentially, make research a far simpler (and less engaging, intense, and interactive) process than we intend it to be.

I understand this. It is the engaging that is the word I fear :lol: Since I have had to cut down the time I play online tremendously, and also the time I think about the game when I am not IG :wink:

I have read most of the books in the book store. But I just can't remember them. I have taken screenshots, but that also demands more time than I have to put those shots together and print them. I was just thinking that it would be a bit faster to print things from the forums, and they would be there to read whenever needed.

I also thought of writing letters to PCs or NPCs. But the thought came to my mind that they would too easily be lost in the middle of other letters and such. Maybe not yet, but in the future, when there will be propably many more letters.

But I settle for this now. Who knows, maybe there will be a library in Sanctuary in the future :wink:
