Is there any reason why a 5th lvl mage receives the message that states "you are not at a high enough level to memorize this spell" when attempting to learn:

Animate Dead: Wizard/Sorc 5, Innate 3

Contagion Wizard/Sorc 4, Innate 3

It's the spell level, not the caster level. In order to cast Wizard/Sorcerer 4 you'll need to be level 7 and have the ability to cast 4th level spells. At level 5 you can cast 3rd level spells. Hope that made sense. :)

Innate level reflects at what level the spell is calculated, not at what level a spell can be learned. For example, Clerics/ Bards get Hold Person as a level II spell, whereas Wizards/ Sorcerers get it as a level III spell. Now, for the function of scribing the spell onto a scroll, or imbuing its magic into a wand, the Innate Level is used, instead of the Casting Level, otherwise there's this discrepantial between Clerics/ Bards on one side, and Wizards/ Sorcerers on the other, making it a less profitable choice for Wizards/ Sorcerers to scribe the spell, or craft it into a wand.

You can see whether or not your character can learn a spell by looking at the Spell Descriptor.

In the example of Animate Dead, it's a level III spell for Clerics, and a level V spell for Wizards/ Sorcerers.

LOL...I just had to comment on your post script about Michael De La Ray sexually harrassing people in Jail. When I first started playing the bastard arrested me, beat me down, and took my shit... I think I was the one that started that with complaints to the Spellguard and Council....unless he has been doing it to other PC's...

I thought it was a funny IC tact to take, he was not doing it IC or OCC... I got the idea when he told me to lay down on the ground in the cell...it just popped into my mind.

It still makes me laugh because his IC character is a little bitch....
