knocking on doors...

is there any way you could make a script that lets us knock on door so people on the other side hear the knock?

mostly useful in inn rooms when you don't want to walkin on people...

also in the buidllings where there are meeting rooms and such...

Yes that would be nice. But can it be done?

Couldn't you just emote *knocks*? I believe they can hear it on the other side.

you can but only for a small window. Once the door is closed I think you have 60 seconds that people outside can hear you and you can hear them.

After that, the door must be opened if you wish to hear them.

In regards to the original post, yes it would be nice, but I get the feeling it's not easily implementable or would have been done already.

Now that we're on the topic of awesome miscellaneous script changes, how about we get that mod in here that requires, sleep, drink, and food! Eh? Eh? :D

EDIT: Mod = hak, meh

Adding this wouldn't accomplish very much. If you knock, or if you don't knock, the door -has- to be opened any way to have the parties on either side of the door communicate. Open the door, emote *knocks*, and close the door quickly. I can think of no circumstance where proper roleplay would be hindered by doing something as simple as this...it's simply not something that really needs to be done 'for you'.

As for eating/drinking/sleeping...I do not see the benifit in having the requirement of doing this. DM supervised survival quests can and have had food, or the shortage of, being an issue, but in general play, this would just be a burden to the player. All three of those features already exist in non-scripted-enforced methods, and you can use those to enhance your roleplay session if you feel the need to.

Smarter doors may happen, but would be a really low priority.

Food, Drink, and sleep requirements were discussed early in the development of the server, and it was determined they would add more negative aspects than positive ones.

Guest speaker...hmm..could it be howland? Arkov? Noone knows :|

I just brought it up, as my once favorite server of all time had it, and I thought it was appropriate and very useful, having my canteen slowly evaporate while my thirst went down faster in a desert, etc. And food could possibly open up a cooking thing, could take the craft trap, and when used to craft a trap, was actually a cooking menu, etc. But I'm getting off track.

The canteens were one of the reasons I never played on "that server" for long, unlike most everyone here. I just didn't see the fun in having to stop what I was doing and walk to a fountain for water every 15 minutes. It didn't seem to add anything to the game at all.

Guest speaker isn't me.

I can think of a really easy way to add "knocking" to doors, actually (although it would be trickier for doors that go across transitions -- not impossible though!). I may add this soon, unless I can think of a good reason not to.

Make doors speak it.

Make sure they can "Door: LOL" too.

:)

Yeah, that's basically the idea!

Can't we just punch the door? I suppose if there's an easy script fix to it, nevermind, but punching seems a bit simpler and I can't imagine you can't hear it.

"/c knock" should be in as of v652. I may fiddle around with it a bit after I see it in action.
