I'm sure someone will tell me why this is stupid, but would it be possible to create an OOC CHARACTER WRAPUP FORUM where players can explain what happened to their characters and any interesting stuff they want to include?
Understand the possibility of spoilers, but the many fine player here on the server routinely disregard OOC info to RP their character. Madcaddies can attest that even a newb like me has to refrain from whacking an evil character because you OOCly know its the baddie, but ICly your charater has no way of knowing who it is sometimes.
ICly, it would represent basic knowledge that everyone would have due to gossip about town.
For instance when the dwarf Morgul was running around killing everyone, my dwarf character never did hear ICly what happened to him. That news would spread like wildfire. Everyone would know if a Councilor was assassinated, yet we rarely do.
It's not practical to log on and start walking around saying, "Hey, did any important citizens die lately? Did anyone get executed? Did the catch the alphabet assassin?" And it would be a bitch for the DMs to make NPC townies walk around and talk about it everytime something interested happened.
Players could also share their OOC rationale and character development, which fascinates me personally. I would love to hear how the whole Breen thing went down. Yet I find that when I try to read the journal entries of those dedicated few that do them, I realize I have no clue who these characters are. And Bosk the Half orc dumbass warrior isn't going to be writing down, "Me killed watchmen today in sewers, now I be in deep Rothe Poo."
Others have mentioned that they feel like they are missing out on plots and all the cool stuff that is going on. THis would be a chance to get a glimpse at some of it, and perhaps help some newbs and pseudo-newbs like me learn how to develop characters like the very best players have done so.
And if you don't want to know that stuff, you don't go to that forum. I'm not interested in scripting and the tech stuff, so I don't go there. Simple enough.
A server vet thought it was a good idea, so I'm throwing it out to the masses.
