So I thought I might see if there was a conscenous of opinon on what was the hardest static quest in the game. Of the ones I have done I vote for the gnoll quest in the mines. Have yet to get through this one without at least two peope in the party dieing. Even the trog quest isn't this difficult!
Hardest static quest
Gnolls isn't all that hard if your smart in how you do it. Sometimes you'll get unlucky though much like any quest.
(SPOILERS DELETED)
Although yes I've had my fair share of bad luck runs in gnolls I've done it at times and litterally POUNDED through it effortlessly. Depends on the group, smart groups can do anything! (like take down quest dragons woot!)
There is a very tough situation on that quest that requires a risky tactic if you don't have the right group.
But I don't think you can really gauge hardest quest overall since it would likely be the highest level quests that very few people an actually take right now.
I'll just say two quests that I cant do without dying - Ogres and Goblin Fortress. Damn (Nasty spell of some sort! Spoiler deleted)
The quest where you go to Baator and have to participate in the Blood War is pretty tough.
Ah, a quest designed with tieflings in mind! Good to see people havent forgotten the little guys 8)
Gobbo fort and Orog fort, seige is damn hard, they just pelt u from afar with arrows and bombs, it hurts to much.
I would have to say that the goblin fortress is the hardest quest. (Spoiler gone!)
This is just me, but the mausoleum.
Since during the levels where you are doing this quest, (2-4) you don't have (a spell - spoiler deleted) which are guarenteed hits everytime. Without someone able to soak up the first blast of 4-5 of these spells in some rooms, you're going to lose people.
If you think that the gobo fort is hard now, know it has been toned down quite a bit. It used to be to the point that many parties turned back not even getting to the walls, or that entire parties were killed not even getting inside the walls. It's tough now, but not that bad if you have a group of smart players.
I've never had trouble with the gnoll quest for some reason. (Edited for spoilers. "There's a spell that helps" :) )
The hardest quest I've ever been on was the troll quest. I've yet to survive it.
I'd agree with Naga that trying to identify the hardest static is probably inconsequential. Its too hard to do, considering the difficulty is entirely dependent on what level you do it on, the mix of your party and the levels of the party, and how good that party is, tactics-wise. These things change everytime.
Having said that, there are a few quests which stand out for me as being particularly challenging:
Sewer Town: This bad boy, depending on your party lvl average, can get insanely tough. I've been in groups, which in mechanical terms were pretty much optimal, and still got simply destroyed.
Mausoleum: Exactly what Oro said.
Ogres: If you take this on with a large party of high levels, expect to get hurt, unless you play it SMART.
Gob Fort: Mentioned.
I do these quests often because I like the challenge. While Orogs can certainly get nasty, I don't think, if you play it smart, thats its overly hard. Long-drawn out, sure.
So looking forward to doing giants.
Sorry, locking this, there's too much potential for spoilers - maybe we should have a "Quest Feedback" day and IRC channel, where people can complain or gush to their hearts content, but there's a danger of spoiling the fun for the people doing any of these quests for the first time.
