Brief of the Brief for Review by Sanctuary Council:

The Sanctuary Gnomish Community Committee for the Restoration, Analysis and Improvement of Current Defensive and Life Improving City Capabilities.

The SGCCRAICDLICC is headed by Committee co-chair and founder Falnirin Artemetio Grabhock Narleknocker Maidusimum Grantin Galdelal the Fourth, Apprentice Engineer, Chapter 5 Subchapter 3 of the Local Engineers Society for the Improvement of the Gnomish Communities of Gilderock.

Intent: This brief summary of the brief prepared from a final revision of the complete document is made available for review and submission to the council for approval both to proceed with the plans as outlined in the sections to follow and to be approved as a known organization within the city walls. The brief is a 25 page document outlining in more depth the activities to be carried out, and the revised document in full is 113 pages and available for review (please see a committee co chair for an appointment, or should you feel the need, we can also come to discuss in depth what this brief of the brief does not cover.)

Purpose: The purpose of the SGCCRAICDLICC is to ensure the maintenance of existing known city and attached mechanisms vital to defense and normal functioning of city life, to repair damaged lines and machinations, and to understand and find those heretofor lost, misused or misunderstood, and to make those available for proper use and function with or without improvement to original design.

Plan: The purpose of the committee will be carried out by following, adhering, addressing, and overall working to bring to pass all enumerated points as detailed below. 1- Submit for review to the Council, Watch, Spellguard, or other appropriate service of the City as dictated, plans and diagrams of defensive modifications to the city which may increase the inherent defensibility of the walls and therefore ensure the protection of the citizens within. 2- Retain, discover, and return as many animatrons as possible to general service for the city, and to repair existing ones to carry out their original duties, or to reconfigure existing or newly built or refurbished units to perform new needed tasks. 3- Return the over and underworkings of the city to their previous pre-human sate, and make alterations as needed to ensure functionality as well as improvement of function if feasible. 4- Will review all newly found technology or machinations not understood within the committee to come to a consensus on the function of the piece reviewed, as well as determining the resources and steps necessary to return the piece to a fully functional state 5- Will undertake surveying and repair trips into the undercity as needed to ensure that points 1-4 will be continually reviewed, completed, and re-evaluated. 6- Will form a secondary oversight committee to ensure that all principles and points as contained in 1-5 are properly undertaken and performed. 7- Will assess the need for a tertiary control committee to ensure the secondary oversight committee is performing their oversight activities properly (not currently seen as needed at this juncture, but for completeness in this brief of the brief, is included). 8- Funding is currently not needed for any preliminary measures, but should the Council or other agencies request the building of any mechanisms, machines, or other such needed services may require the requesting organization to defray the cost of the materials needed. The SGCCRAICDLICC is a non-profit committee with only the interests as listed in the above numerations.

All studies of known and unknown machinations, animatrons, machines, engineering, and all other pieces unnamed for brevity in this brief will be taken for study by the principles of reverse engineering as outlined and discussed in chapters 1-129 (pages 1-5111) of the 14 volume manual of Basic Reverse Engineering, Revised Edition as kept at the Chapterhouse of Chapter 5 Subchapter 3 of the Local Engineers Society for the Improvement of the Gnomish Communities of Gilderock (Note: Volumes needed are not currently available for review, though main principles have been studied by the above named co-chair.)

Clerk Myrta Cleidt reads the letter multiple times, her cheeks going redder and redder as she does, her mouth forming into a small "o." As she finishes her third re-read of the letter, she collapses into her chair and fans herself with a small fan furiously, emiting small sounds of delight. After recovering, she arranges for the letter - in full - to be sent in triplicate to each Councilor and various other important officials of Sanctuary. Attached to each copy of the letter are various seals including ones that read "TOP PRIORITY" and "URGENT" and "CLASSIFICATION - HIGHEST SIGNIFICANCE." When the Mayor of Sanctuary sits down to review his papers for the day, at the top of his pile -- above some confidential Seeker reports and briefs from the Spellguard -- is prominently placed a copy of this letter.

A tall courier dressed in a sharp black-and-silver uniform receives one of the copies to be sent to Councilor Grigor Starag. Upon seeing the seals and classification markings, he immediately acquires a Watch escort and marches quickly to the Hold to deliver the priority message. Soon thereafter, once his daily meditation has been completed, Grigor Starag finds the letter on top of his stack of mail. He flips the document open, blinks twice, and proceeds to stare at it for a solid hour as he attempts to decipher its meaning.

At the same time, over in the Watch House, as Sheriff Eugene Walters puts aside a large slab of roast rothe to reach for his copy of the letter, he accidently drops a blob of fire lichen sauce upon the largest of the red wax seals. Glancing about his office and making sure that the door is closed, he proceeds to bring the envelope up close to his face and sniff at the stained seal, pondering what yet could be salvaged.

Across town, Officer Barkely stands upright deep within Tower Spellguard as deep red lights illuminate the hovering projection of Commander Stephanos Simms. Amidst the low hum of magic and machinery, and the slow progression of steel and staves, the white-haired flickering figure slides the letter open, wondering what urgent news the city's government has seen fit to bring to his attention.

Within her library-office in the Town Hall, Adelia Tyrell looks over the three copies of the letter that recently arrived one after the other from the Office of the Herald. She reads through once, and then again, finally pronouncing: "How curious!"

Meanwhile, Jacob Geigne receives the letter in his office. He pops open the seal and begins reading: "Falnirin Artemetio Grabhock Narleknocker Maidusimum Grantin Galdelal the Fourth, Apprentice Engineer..." Needless to say, he was in his office for quite some time.

Having learned that Gaeseric and Gundahar are out of town on an expedition to harpoon Deep Lizards in a dangerous swamp on the shore of the Dark Lake, Clerk Cleidt arranges for a group of eleven adventurers to personally find the Councilor and deliver the important missive. Unbeknownst to Cleidt, the author of the missive is in fact hired to deliver the message. He is totally unaware of what his group is actually guarding.

Two separate boats are hired at considerable expense and make their way across the treacherous waters of the lake to the Bone Swamp. One of the scouts hired is eaten by a deep lizard. The adventurers battle through all manner of slimes, leeches, and oozes before finally reaching the camp. A shocked Councilor Gaeseric is wearily presented the urgent letter, where he instantly opens it and reads what it contains. He promises to consider the matter carefully upon his return to the town. He returns to his deep lizard roast, and urges the adventurers to head home to safety. Further adventures follow.
