Tonight a bunch of us decided to play through the SoU campaign together since EFU was down. Trouble is, we couldn't figure out how to hell to host it properly. Every time someone would log in they'd get a timeout message. Eventually we got around it by using a virtual server program called Hamachi that sort of tricks the computers into thinking they're on a LAN. While this worked for some of us, it didn't work for people on older operating systems.
So, if anyone has any ideas as to what we were doing wrong and how we could do it right, please use this thread to tell us. I did this:
http://www.portforward.com/ and set up a static IP since I'm on a router, but it still didn't work. And everyone else seemed to be having the same problem when they tried hosting. Maybe Gamespy was just having a bad night.
Any ideas?
Scary?

Use the one guy who has a fix IP and is not connecting through NAT/proxy. Works for dinamic IPs too if they are assigned for longer periods of time.

You likely need to open ports on your router too. 5121 or something like that if I recall correctly.

5121 is correct. Easy enough, connect to your moden and set the portal number there.

I think we tried all that but thanks. We can try again. If somebody feels like getting a bit more specific, that'd be nice. I'm a total noob.

I have ports 5120-5129, and 6667 open as I was told these were the ones NWN uses.

You missed some.
NWN uses the following:
5120-5300
6500
27900
28900
All are UDP. And you need to have the right IP, and have the box checked enabled.

Part of the reason it was wierd is that I've had no trouble hosting for small groups before, but this night everyone was Timing Out. I turned off my firewall and I have a static IP.

I disabled my whole firewall on my router and still it didn't work, all firewalls were down. I think this is some new 1.63 thing

Yeah, that 1.63 patch really messed it all up. 8)
