Forming a group of new characters - hop on!

I would like to form a group of players, vet or new players, that would like to try to adventure/play together and possibly run a prelude together to form a common bond and history. Don't mean to dissuade from the interaction and conflict that ensues when a LE fighter, CE cleric, LG paladin, N druid, CG barbarian meet in the Rock Bottom and form a party, but not what I'm looking for. Now having some conflict with other groups perhaps... ;-)

I pestered Howland a bit, and he came up with a wonderful premise - my character, a priest of Lathander, has been assigned the task by his superiors to go into the Underdark on a specific mission. I'd rather not reveal the rough outline yet.

This is not for evil characters that are trying to be tricky and tag along. The shining light of Lathander ( probably at least one paladin ) will penetrate to their very souls. :-o

My character will start out as the leader due to very high charisma and has hired/selected/was granted this rescue party, but will be very open to suggestions/help but not constant dissension in his party. OOCly you can bust my balls all you want!

I'd like to play evenings on EST about 9 pm to 1 am, longer or shorter if necessary but that's the rough block of time. Once in a while I'll be on afternoons or evening mornings EST for the next few weeks, but not after that.

ANY non-evil characters welcome, but their history must have some connection to the church of Lathander, or well-known mercs hirable (and already paid - funds in trust in the surface ;-) )

I'll assume the mode of entry is the Yawning Portal Inn.....I believe in Waterdeep? Or perhaps a portal opened by very high level priests of Lathander...? If that helps in character creation.

And I'll be asking a DM if we can run the Undermountain prelude or any other one. We can adjust the histories as necessary if a DM would prefer to run a specific one already created, or wants to make one.

Looking for some party balance as well. Duh...

Come on troops, if your primary is a bit stale or if you would like to jump on board, even for a while, that would be cool. If we get enough interest and DM approval for a prelude, I'll start a thread about when we go over in the Prelude section.

I might be interested in joining up with you. Though i'm on vacation for several more days, so I won't be available immediately.

Yea, I officially want in on this now.

I'm too pumped about my idea... need a short rest from politics and it's summah time. I got time out the frame.

Unfortunately I'm out but would love to be int - Aussie Timezones :-(

It will be good to see an influx of new good characters :-)

would be interested in this though it would be my secondary character and I may not be able to make it at all times. I think I can work that into my character concept. As a punishment I was sent along for some crime I commited against the church yadda yadda. If that doesn't work let me know and I'll try to think of something better. I would have to leave before 1 most days as well...

same i would love to join in but im in aust so kinda makes it hard... both my primary and my secondary died and i have only minimal hope for my app. charactor as i dont seem to have a goal for her and the DM's pointed that one out... (any ideas for an insane canablistic female drow rogue any one? cause most of the time i RP a charactor that finds themself in a start and as they learn of the area i start to form their ideas on how they will react and as such my charactors start to get objectives and not the other way having a charactor that has their goals and not know anything about where they are lol just me i think) hmmmm so yeah damn shame im in aust and wont beable to squeeze into the story for regular times cause it sounds like fun

If there is any need for a darkness crushing boot of justice, just say the word and a lathander paladin will set off with you. Not that it would be as simple a character as that...

Well hurry up and get in here guys! There are some poor lost kids of lathander who can use some guidance (or at least one I could think of). Really though, looking forward to all the new people.

Guess I'll do this on a first come first serve basis.

Ideally looking for a total of 8 characters but realize not all will be on all the time, but at least we should be able to do the higher level quests together.

Hate to limit this in any way too much, but I'd like to avoid having a six pack of paladins. Even if they are great RPers, I think it would be more fun to have some party balance. Skrillix, since you offered first to play a paladin you should certainly get to play one of them.

Don't want all you guys fighting over the longsword of 1d10 mighty crits though....

Definates so far? EDITED June 22....

Me :D nikkial Garem Skrillix Gralloch Unison Rex exiledmage

Got eight now...one or two more max....but we are prolly good to go unless someone else really wants in.

Continuing party list on the Prelude section...

I suggest setting an IRC channel up, where interested people can hang out, ask questions, and similar. #ChurchOfLathander, or so.

Oh, and, grand idea! These groups are always fun, especially when religious, or otherwise homed in on a specific goal, as they tend to get some impact on the server.

Sword? No, maces for me (Lathanders favoured weapon and all). Just one more thing: SMITE 8)

IRC server is now active

#ChurchOfLathander

hop on in guys! I'm there, hang out with me!

hmm so I didn't give a good idea for joining..I would love to be involved if a secondary character is acceptable. If you have seen samus around that is my primary.

Trying to have this be a group who will be able to play most evenings at the above times. Not necessarily EVERY evening. If you are part of the original group and are on about 3-4 nights a week at least, that's kind of what I was looking for.

It doesn't have to be your main if you play a lot, but looking for some consistency to the group, especially in the beginning.

Some build ideas...

A high CHA sorc who for whatever reason thinks that his "powers" are a "gift/curse from Lathander".

A wizard that specializes/delights in fire based or related spells and has worships Lathander due to the obvious connection of sun, birth, cleansing and such. Perhaps a specialist wizard in a school that enhances fire spells?

An undead hunter ranger or ranger/rogue with undead as favored enemy and perhaps dual wielding blunt weapons. Kudos to Gralloch for this idea.

A bard with high lore (duh) and has done research related to the group mission. Possibly a Lathanderite but not necessary. Could be hired by the church also to chronicle the expedition and also act as the party's herald.

Some fighter/tank build that's mindlessly loyal to the Church of Lathander and its priests. The guy in DaVinci Code comes to mind, but most of you are far more creative than I am, so whatever floats your boat here.

Obviously 1-3 paladins is a cool choice too.

NOT trying to pigeonhole anyone. As long as the character is non-evil, they can be whatever. My mind is just rolling through some cool builds, at least they are to me... :-)

Just some suggestions that might spark someone's interest. Would like to get our party rounded out soon and hopefully start the prelude when Howland or another DM is ready and it fits their schedule.

Have five members total, looking for hopefully at least three more.

And I guess we don't have to cap it at eight. Not sure how many the DM would want to take on the prelude, but once we are in town (if we make it) I'm sure the Church will be looking to gain converts and welcome those of the faith already there...

If you ever change the time block, I could be interested. I usually work during that time.

Staring_Death

Perhaps we could have an Aussie based time zone group or anyone else that would like to jump on board and plays at about that time?

nestek Staring death Dragonius

Maybe you guys could be a "rescue party" sent by the Church when it becomes apparent that something seems to have gone wrong and the first party isn't coming back?

Those characters that don't drift off and do other things might be a "second shift" of the Lathanderites?

Perhaps they can run the Undermountain prelude for you guys shortly after?

What time would this be for you guys? Any more interested in jumping in on this "second shift" with the Aussies?

I play late/Aussie time, so I can probably help you guys out post-arrival.

If it's held on a weekend, and I can convince my body that it doesnt need sleep I could probably help the other group post-arrival as well.

If it was late Oz time I'd be interested (after 11pm GMT +10)

I could make a bard. No problems with him being a Lathanderite. My main is Silver Corwynn.

im more than happy to join in. im usually on from about 8pm 10+ GMT untill about 10. i will build a monk for it if wanted

I currently have a player who is a cleric of lathander, and another who is a pure elven rogue. I am getting a little board and possibly would like to play, what type of characters are you still looking for? I know I cant use my cleric, damn! But I would like to see what your looking for, maybe i can make a new character :D

Sound sliek a lot of fun and appreciate that you would consdier the Aussies as part of this - I could runa character that can be killed off in the prelude as it sound sliek fun but I have enough characters that I need to run now without introducing another :)

Let me know what the second shift needs adn I will be there

Well, a rescue party sounds...troublesome. What I mean is that having 2 groups at 2 different times, working together at different times does not seem such a good idea, since they'd have a hard time cooperating together.

If there was no specific timeblock for the groups, I wouldn't see it much of a problem (but then you wouldn't need to have a rescue party).

I do hope I made some sense.

Well, I'm not sure if it's possible to coordinate, but it's an attempt to allow others that don't play in the later evenings EST time zone to jump on board.

I'm sure some characters from both groups will crossover and play different times once in a while. And the idea being that there are two "shifts" that are out working to recover this item, either cooperatively or competitively. So could share knowledge or the second group could operate on the pretext that they represent another faction in the Lathanderite Church and are competing.

Or that the church got together another group to beef up its presence on this mission, or on the premise that an oracle "knew that they were cut off and in grave danger".

I'll leave it up to you guys to decide how or even if you want to do it. Would be fun RP either way.

Great point.

not so you see it could be done like this.

party A gets sent to the underdark to help those of sanctuary.

mage on the surface fortells of the first party getting lost/in danger/both.

preist hires another party B to rescue party A.

Party B sets off to find party A.

you see the parties can have different goals Party A has the goal of rescuing those from sanctuary and Party B has the goal to rescue Party A and eventually they end up doing the same thing trying to help the citizens of sanctuary. you see not quite so troublesome they are both independent parties and its not untill they hit sanctuary that the parties start to work together.

so sofar we have for Party B myself-Monk of illmatter Nestek-something (in a hurry cant scroll up)

I only have one character right now on the server (undead hunting ranger) and I could not always commit 100% to play at the appointed times, but very often could-are you willing to accept tag-alongs? I could make a paladin if you need one, since I was planning to anyways.

Thanks

Ehh... we ran the prelude yesterday night, sorry bud.

BUT we're in Sanctuary now, so hopefully you'll run into one of the Lathanderites IG. If you see "Garem has joined as a player" Feel free to drop me a tell if you have any questions, or PM me I guess. HarryKrishna is the leader of their group, so might drop him a tell/PM via forums.
