I'm not sure if Bioware changed this already, but my experience playing a ranger with an animal companion was that while a panther would have high hide/move in silence (if I remember correctly), it didn't use it, and you couldn't order it to.
With familiars you can possess it, use stealth and unposssess, I guess. But it would be nice if there was an option to order using a mode (be it stealh or detect modes), like henchmen do.

This sounds like a good suggestion. It would be nice thing, if the animal companion could stealth also, at least the kind of animal companion which would be excepted to be able to do it.

You can add it to the companion conversation "enter stealth mode" and so on. Look at I think the HotU animal conversations with like "follow closely, follow further away, dont attack until I do" and so on.

In HotU, if I recall correctly, minions also enter stealth as you do. Not entirely sure it holds true for animal companions too, but I'm positive henchmen do. Which got me thinking, if it's possible to have your minion stealth together with you when you press a button, perhaps it's possible to have only it do it (with a hotkey that is) with some clever scripting.

Well, if it already enters in stealth mode if you do, then this whol suggestion is moot and I'm an idiot for not testing it first.
Blame Sanofi-Aventis for not having work for me for 2 days straight. :P

Its not, its a specially scripted AI for henchmen/companions in HotU, not standard I don't think.

As Fish said, it's an HotU specific thing, so don't worry :). And even if, it's flawed; I could think of many times I'd like my animal companion to stealth, but not myself. What I meant with my post was that since it's possible in HotU, it should be here too, with some scripting magic.

I'll have to check to see if animal companions use the standard henchman radial, but if they do, I belive you toggle stealth mode and search mode using that.

They dont. I speak from experience.

Maybe that function can be scripted to be activated by a chat command?
I'm just taking a wild stab here. I've no idea if that's possible to script or not.

Ayep. I bet it can. I'll look into it.
