I recently had an opportunity to PvP another player in the Crone. I notified the dm of my intention, but got no response. Cyrus was interacting with me and other players, so I know a dm was there. My character would have attacked this char regardless of where it was, but due to server PvP regulations, I can't attack in front of NPCs without dm permission. This situation forced me to play my char in a manner that is completely against his normal behavior. I guess my biggest beef is: why were my notices ignored?!? Not even a "sorry-busy right now" or "too bad. live with it" This situation was particularly infuriating to me. Any feedback from a dm would be greatly appreciated.
Ignored by the dm
Just to say, if DM was there posessing NPC and you send a warning to DM channel, I see it that DM is already watching. They often don't say anything, but just come. If you are not sure, ask again and request them to say if they are there.
Also realize that for every line of text you read, a DM is usually reading two or three.
They see all Party Chat, all DM chat, all regular chat. Odds are really good that sometimes they can miss something.
In this instance, the DM present was not me, but I can definitely attest to being flooded by chat and often only responding to certain tells and messages some fifteen minutes later.
But it seems like the DM was standing infront of you and was active already, which would indicate they would've been on hand to deal with any PvP anyway, although I do stress that it is still best to send a message anyway, just incase.
Yeah it's one of the things you should be piping up about on the NWN2 d.m client discussion on the official boards. (thats if you're interested in the development of NWN2 of course)
Having multiple windows for different types of chat (or some way of highlighting stuff) would all help "a little" in this flood of information.
When did this happen?
More than likely the DM just missed your comment.
LaBrea and I were both on, and dealing with one million requests AND events we were running at the same time. As said above, requests can get lost in all the chatter in the dialogue box, and often DMs are quite busy.
Apologies if we missed your request.
Edit - To clarify, I vaguely remember seeing your name in the DM channel, but it was right next to at least one other PvP request and someone notifying me that something was happening in the Watch House I needed to observe, on top of an event I was already in the middle of running. I tried to deal with everything as quickly as possible.
So try multiple attempts on the DM line?
I usually assume that no DM is online when I get no response. Is it more likely that they are busy and can't respond at all?
Thanks...
If anyone doesn't answer in, lets say, 10 minutes, then you should do another sending. If they still does not answer, assume that they are not online perhaps. Some time, they may just miss the first tell.

Just as an aside for non-PvP situations:
If you've sent a tell about something to the DM channel (+ you're compulsive like me + send a tell into an IRC channel, too), the DM responding might not answer because he's setting something up for you to run into about 10 minutes down the road.
I had an unfortunate situation recently where I misclicked and accidentally punched Norma (in the Market) to her death (she is as weak as she appears). To my surprise, I was not attacked by any guards (may want to check this as a bug), but every NPC around me was on high alert. I immediately sent a Tell to the DMs of the mistake that had just happened and scurried away. I did not get a response, but I think someone got it because later several of us RPed her fall, where she then arose from what we discovered was a DEEP sleep. I give Norma credit, she went right back to work...wheeling and dealing the next available customer! It's that old-school work ethic I gather.
Thanks for all the feedback. I will keep all of this in mind in the future. I understand the dm's are very busy and could miss the tell. It was just a sweet RP oppurtunity that I didn't want to pass up. Anyway, thanks again, and keep up the good dm'ing. I still believe this server is hands-down the best around!
A lot of the time if I am actually teleporting in, I just do so quietly. The reason for this, is sometimes I feel it's better to not let the player know if they are actually being watched or not. I usually prefer the players not knowing actually. I'd like them to behave as if a DM were watching all the time, so I don't tip off whether I really am or not.
Big brother is watching you
The problem with that, Thrawn, is that we've been told not to PvP in areas with NPCs unless we know a DM is there.
Indeed.
