EFU Plans for NWN2?

What are the plans for EFU in NWN2? It's not that far down the road after all!

Will we have a massive EFU NWN to NWN2 port, a new setting or will EFU remain on NWN? Or should I dare think it'll simply disappear?! :O

Not likely.

We're also not very likely to stick to a carbon copy with a visual rehash when the time comes.

However, consider the fact that NWN 2 will be more or less inhospitable to Persistent Worlds at the start, and that the process of building is considerable, and we have more time on our hands until the moment nears than it seems.

It's not the end of the dinosuars is it?>>>Explain inhospitable please.

The game, as I have been made to understand; will likely have very little support for persistent world things that are necessary for their functionality: databasing, graphical stability/scale ratio, etc in the beginning.

Problems that can be solved with time.(as they were with NWN 1)

NWN 2 is unlikely to provide much in the way of persistent database capability, making the construction of true persistent worlds somewhat challenging (at the start).

The answer is that EfU will always go to the best medium that best supports our story-telling purpose.

Inhospitable to PWs? That's weird, I heard that NWN2 was MORE hospitable to PWs, with a special dedicated server and better campaign storage devices.

it will be the same and more, but we don't need to worry about this or even bother planning it til february/march next year when the release date begins to be finalised and closes in.

thats a long thread. I read it once, what was the topic again?

That's what I heard too.

I thought they were working toward PW support, but like I said before, I suppose a handful of people with no clue about anything ranted on the Obsidian forums so long about how they should concentrate on the play-once-then-it-gets-boring Campaign and to leave the PW support out because online play is just for griefers that Obsidian changed the programme.

Then we should go and rant back?

A lot of people have "heard" a lot of things. Obviously, they're going to try to make "immersive worlds." However, I'm more interested in specifics.

These are the things that concern me.

(1) Statements that most of what they're doing is focusing on the single player campaign.

(2) Quotes indicating that we should "temper" our expectations for ODBC database hooks or support.

(3) The fact that the worlds will be so much more complex and graphically intense, that hosting for large numbers of people may just grow more expensive or difficult. Not to mention large parts of our player base not even being able to play the game on their PC. Conservative estimates of hosting a PW I've heard will be that it will be twice as bandwidth intensive (that's from Vulcano, btw, whom some of you may remember from CoA).

Anyway, we'll see. The game is ages away, we'll make the right decision when it comes to that point.

Worry about it as the time comes. Truths will land eventually, remember they didnt expect NwN to even Have PWs, let alone servers above 10, look at it now.

If NwN2 is inhospitable to PW's then keep the original NWN up and play online with it. This suggestion of course is outrageous to many who want new and improved(so they say) I mean, I could have both versions loaded and if one won't play nice with the other then so be it. Either way, cross that bridge when you come up on it.

Relax duffie. Everythangs gonna be all white.

There was some interview or article I read that said they plan on *supporting* server capability to hold up to 64 players. I realize that doesn't do anything to help a PW stay persistant, but it is a lot more help than they gave for having lots of people all playing at once (developers for NwN said they designed the multiplayer support for servers of 5-6 people, including DMs).

There is plenty more PW support but just noone really knows about it and people are twisting dev's comments. What we have now, And more. It works now, it will work in the future.
