Letter for Lieutenant Balesman left at the Rock Bottom

19th of Alturiak, 1373DR

Lieutenant Balesman,

I have been informed by Agent De la Rey that, in order for one to join the Associates program, one should contact either you or Agent Delgado. As I have already bothered the Spellguard more than enough, I figured addressing you, lieutenant, would be a somewhat wiser choice.

I wish to express my interest in joining this faction and was hoping you would be able to help me with that. Judging by what the Agent had to say on the matter, it would seem like you might want to meet me in person. I can oftentimes be found in the Rock Bottom but you could always simply leave a note with Mr Twist.

Aseir Greycastle

Cpt. Balesmaan,

First, noticing your signature, I would like to apologize for adressing you as Lieutenant. I merely went by the information provided to me by third-parties.

As to my wanting to join the Spellguard Associates, I am under the impression that both drow and illithids know of our location, and, as such, one could argue that upholding the laws regarding casting outside of warded areas is, well, ridiculous.

I, on the other hand, do not think so. To be honest, I would say that drow and illithids are amongst the least of our many worries, simply due to the fact that, should they want to, they could wipe us out in a matter of days. To my knowledge, they have yet to try this.

No, I believe there are far greater threats out there, threats we need to ward ourselves against. As a concerned citizen of this here establishment I would like to think it my duty to assist in this, however, I have seen myself forced to acknowledge that doing such, sadly, is simply not possible if one does not possess some amount of authority.

Regarding my personal background and qualifications, my father started teaching me the ways of the Arts when I was but an urchin. He was a most capable conjurer, much as I hope to once become. I since assisted in numerous experiments, mainly revolving around summonings. We were recently to present some of our research in Waterdeep when ambushed 2 days of riding north of Baldur's Gate. Subsequently, I found myself a citizen in this very settlement, where I hope to continue and, perhaps, finalize the research begun by my father.

Conjurer Greycastle,

I believe we should meet, now that I have some of my other obligations somewhat under control. Inform Twist that he can let me know which room you reside in, and we shall speak soon.

-S.A. Cpt. Balesmaan-

*Aseir reads the reply and tells Spencer to direct Kayne to his room when he sees him.*
