a chat window popped up for me twice for no reason asking what faction i wanted to join, listing them all.

This is definitely our most mysterious bug. Just escape out of it when it happens.

Should be fixed. Tell me if this reappears.

The mysterious behavior, I believe, was caused by one of our early scripters leaving some debugging calls to GetFirstPC(...) in his code. That's fixed now.
