This may not be possible but it would be wonderful if we could keep the things we have added to our journal and our map pins after we logg. I've found myself getting lost in sanctuary quite a bit..I don't want to think what might happen if I end up going into the ruins or back into the underdark...(anyone got any good suggestions on map making? A simple graph paper map just doesn't seem like it would cut it with this given the three dimensional nature of the world...)

You already save whatever you write into your journal. Adding persistant mappins is possible, I've seen it happen on a HAK-free server.

I thought that went in already. I'll have to check up on it. I'm pretty sure it's possible and I thought it was implemented.

It hasn't gone in, and it's not going in. It is possible but makes very little sense.

On the other hand, a mapmaking system which allows you to save your map pins to a "map" object and reacquire them later by using the map will be added soon.

Oh this is off topic but is there a list anywhere of off limit areas? Just recently found out the inn under dark lake is punishable by execution (right before I was about to go hunting for it...)

Map PINS!!!! excellent arkov, I havent seen any server actually make that useful (or module) they only work if they are persistant.
