As per the advice of the creator of the criticism thread, I've started one for our dear...
~~~Quadra Pirillithis~~~
NG (Neutral Good) Sun Elf Swordsman STR 15 (base 14) DEX 14 CON 10 INT 16 WIS 12 CHA 12
Quadra is my first EfU character. She was born during a particularly bored day when my shamaness Swifteye perished in CoA. Originally inspired by a TV character on a show I was watching at the time, Quadra quickly became a character of her own. I moved full-time to EfU and have enjoyed my time here thoroughly.
She seems incredibly random and moody, and the fact is that it's true. However, she was made this way intentionally (IC and OOC, oh noes, spoiler) and I keep careful tabs on her zany actions. She is, most commonly, polite, incredibly shy, positive, and confused. I also make sure to add a certain degree of naivete that I feel fills her out more as a support character and allows other players to manipulate her. It is my understanding that there are many players who don't want bad things to happen to their characters, but I embrace it in order to restore the balance.
The stuttering is a natural evolution of my tendency to type in very particular, speech-like patterns. A comma is equivalent to a brief pause; three periods, though commonly used to describe any length of pause, are equivalent to a full second's pause; each successive period after the first three is equivalent to an additional one second of pause; and a hyphen at the end of a word is equivalent to a sudden silence.
Quadra is my experiment in uniquity. Her particular mannerisms and personality quirks have been fleshed out over time around the skeletal structure of a timid, modest, girl-next-door. I chose her particular head model because of the short, bouncy hair, not the hat, and I believe that adequately matches her personality word-for-word. What can only be described as her passion for milk is, in fact, merely a spur-of-the-moment running gag inspired by the scene in Clone High where Cleopatra is pouring milk over her body and saying, "Mmm, milk." (Side note: Quadra has, in the past, poured milk on herself to cool down and given her wet blonde hair a toss skyward, oblivious to the poor male watching her.) Her eating and drinking habits (holding food or a bottle with both hands and taking tiny, rapid bites or sips) is the natural exposition of her mousey nature. Finally, her attention to detail when identifying items of lore, in addition to her specific choice of weapon, are one of the few ties to her elvish heritage that I made certain to instill in her as a reminder.
There have been many quirks that have been dropped by the wayside over time that you may have noticed. In the earliest days of playing Quadra, she had a particularly keen eye for various types of armor, and was very exciteable when discussing the finer points of tempering steel. This has not been so much removed as merely forgotten, as over time it developed into a general, militaristic sense of fashion (which, as a Sun Elf, she has no problem informing others about.) She was also, originally, supposed to be very much into books, reading, and documentation. While it is not generally discussed or witnessed, you can be sure that the time I spend not playing Quadra is represented in game by sitting in her room with a novel or going over various bits of local propaganda. Most noticeable, however, would be the slow decline of milk mention. The only answer I have for this is that if you wish to discuss milk with Quadra, you had best be prepared with an empty schedule for the next few weeks.
Quadra is not your typical elf, but she is mine. She wields a longsword in reverence to its elvish appeal and historical value. She is every bit the free-spirit that elves were intended to be, and not a serious and authoratative individual with a keen sense of how things have to be. This is my personal war waged against the dark, brooding emo elf who wields an impossible weapon or fighting style and is understood by nobody but the woman he denies his love for because he doesn't want to hurt her (YOU HEARD ME, ALIEN DICE!) I may not play an elf who constantly speaks Quenya and refers to her racial pantheon in every other sentance, but neither do the NPCs in the OC. I think that elves are just like Humans, except happier because they won't die as fast.
Her combat style, as I decided after getting the feats, is based on standard Drow hit-and-run tactics. This is portrayed by her Dodge and Spring Attack feats and the way I move her around in melee. She also has the Toughness feat to remedy her Con of 10, and the Weapon Focus/Specialization that represents her value of technique over brute strength. When in doubt, she can fall back into a defensive stance by using Expertise.
Quadra is also incredibly lucky despite her reckless style. In the past, she has managed to defeat or fend off opponents like Gerdan, Imnan, Greyward and Praetorius with an unnaturally high frequency of critical hits. In combat involving use of magic items or potions, she uses a great deal less than anyone else (excluding healing potions in times of actual death). Ghostly Visage, Barkskin and other such buffs find themselves out in the cold unless provided to her.
I have not actively pursued many personal projects with Quadra, but the few I have been involved in were, to say the least, related to her pattern of uniquity. Among my few achievements: I have hosted an impromptu birthday tour of Upper Sanctuary, during which I typed away with furious creative abandon to come up with unique and ridiculous stories for various sites; I've hosted an equally-impromptu free-for-all tournament that, while not necessarily "successful", was nonetheless a great deal of fun (for me, at least); and I was an early member of the late, great Golden Doubloons. However, my proudest moments have been the various scripted and unscripted quests, in which I've met with many great characters and their players. With each new experience, I have taken away a new lesson to use in forging what I hope is a thought-provoking and inciteful (spelled correctly!) support character.
In conclusion; although I enjoy the dear elven lass like no character before her, the time will someday come when she retires to the big purgatory in the sky. Please, let me know what you think of Quadra, and of me, so that I can avoid any non-productive mistakes I've made with her. I'll never apologize for talking to the painting, though, so don't count on it!
Sincerely, A suit of human skin.
