last night I was on a quest with a player who was playing a bar-brawling sorta woman.
My character was charmed to sleep a couple of times. Each time the charm lasted beyond the length of the fight so everyone had to wait for my character to wake up.
This player, both times, took it upon himself to IC his character to get irritated and literally punch my character awake. The first time, I took only 1 hp damage and it was a funny little scene. The second time though, she got a sneak attack (player was a rogue) and did 11hp damage. I only had 33hp max to start with and I was already lower than that because of the fight we were in and the damage I had taken. So at this point my character is near 1/4 of his total health.
Not more than a few seconds later, that same player runs off and gets seen by more Chosen and since all of our teams weapon enchantments had worn off, we were helpless. I died almost immediately and the rest of the team was forced to run for their lives.
Now the point is that had I had that 11 hp, I would not have died. I would have been able to make a run for it. However, this players poor and unnecessary IC decision cost me a trip to the fugue and then, OOC, when I asked for some consideration for my situation, she refused to either apologize or raise me, instead resort to insults and name calling.
Also, there were 3 other people who were sleeping when she woke me up the second time. She did not punch or hit them, just me. And IC, though her character was rude, my character did nothing but remain polite and tried to heal her leading up to this. So there wasn't even any IC provoking to lead up to this.
Does anyone else see a problem with how this player handled herself?

No. I think she did IC what is needed to wake you up. This is totally IC thing and should be sorted out via characters. It wasn't funny, I understand it, but hell, that's usually best way to get someone awake.

invest points in heal and bring medicine, bring PFE's instead of magic missiles or blesses. get more potions. do *spoiler* runs and get invis potions.
it was entirely IC. yeah it sucks but do some OOC preparation i guess.
(on edit: yeah if that player was being a dick to you in tells, screenshot it and tell a dm for sure. shit happens IC, but nobody gives shit OOC. its not cool)

damn inconvenient sneak attacks, if the player did insults OOC then that's not on, though the rest just seems a mechanics mistake. It sounds like it was all IC so I can't see a problem with it

IC it was fine.
OOC if the player was insulting to you, I'd screen shot or log the conversation and alert a DM though. People don't deserve piss poor ooc treatment especially moments after IC 'bad stuff'.

I guess my thoughts on this are that if you play a rogue, you know exactly when and how to get a sneak attack off. Which include the following: anyone not performing a melee combat action or performing a melee combat action on someone other than the player with the sneak attack feat, anyone in a 'prone' position such as sleeping, dazed, paralyzed or knocked down, or anyone using a ranged weapon.
So any rogue should know when a sneak attack is possible and underwhat conditions to acheive one, hell that's the only way to really make a rogue viable in combat.
To know this, and still run the risk of sneak attacking me, just seems like poor decision. And besides, what if I wanted to RP that my character is a REALLY heavy sleeper? I can't because the mechanics prevented me from RPing that aspect of it, while it allowed her, to my detriment, to RP herself to the fullest.

She roleplayed a character that uses a kidney punch to wake up your heavy sleeper.
It all looks like an IC situation to me until someone got rude; at least from what you're explaining on the forums All I'd comment on is the stuff that happened IC.
You were put into a magical sleep. An angry rogue who obviously didn't like your character IC punched you in the kidneys to wake you up. Before you had time to heal, Chosen attacked you. Still hurt from the punch, you were unable to fight them off and died.
Likely the rogue would have earned a chaotic shift in alignment, maybe even evil if she evidenced no remorse--but had it happened to me I'd have had to say it was all IC still.

Fair enough. I just wanted to see if my IC//OOC barometer was off or not by getting feedback from the community.

As a sidenote, when you are under the effects of the Sleep enchantment, you do not sleep. You do not snore. You do not dream.
Sleep puts you in a comatose slumber.

Most definately the more disturbing part about this scenario is that the person was an ass OOC. After dishing out an excessive amount of HPs (assuming by accident), that character could have at least indicated it as unintentional OOC and maybe even heal that damage in good faith. Being a dick IC is understandable, but no one needs to be a dick OOC as well.

Everything that happened IC is completely fine, if OOC insulting tells were exchanged then I'd like to review the logs/screenshots as that is inappropriate.

Howland, sadly I do not have any screenshots of the chat or the words exchanged. I will state that though there was name calling, the insults were relatively minor when compared to what could have been said.
Things like "It was all IC, so stop whining." , "Everything I did was IC so stop acting like a baby" , (after asking them to not do it again I got this response) "I'll wont do it to you again, but only just so that I dont have to hear you whining like a middle schooler" (the verbage isn't exact, but that was the general idea).
Her comments about whining were referring to my several attempts on the party channel to inquire about if they would raise me or not. Of which I recieved NO response from any one on the team. I also sent private tells to the other teammates asking if it would be possible. One person did kindly say that she would love to, but didn't think the group as a whole had the coin to do so. Which is understandable, but I had to ask like 5 times before anyone responded in any fashion. Even a 'just a second' comment would have sufficed. So I respawned ( I was lucky to have another player able to grab my body and belongings before he fled, my thanks to the Nigel PC for that) and the moved on.
I suppose things could have degraded into racial insults or swearing match. But they didn't since I ended it with "*sigh* whatever"
I do have their account name, it was quite memorable, if you need it Howland, but honestly, I just wanted feed back from the community about how/if I reacted justly or should feel sleighted or if this is something the community as a whole either accepts or is condoned.
I am not mad (any more), and I am sorry for this long diatribe of a thread. I'm just new to this server and it's dynamics are quite unique among servers.
